GPS using custom calibrated maps?

Do anybody know if it's possible with a handheld GPS to use calibrated tiff or bmp maps (digital maps calibrated with Oziexplorer to a *.map file)? It can be done using a laptop with Ozieexplorer and an antenna, but not very handy on hiking!
It's a bit more laboreous to create maps with MapEdit.
Maybe a simple problem, just never heard about such a GPS. confused

creating maps

You may want to look here: http://www.geopainting.com/en/ It is program that is translating various formats into garmin maps (see faq section). You can even transfer paper maps to garmin devices but those require right calibrations before can be used.
Process is rather time consuming so unless you have a lot of time on you hands it probably be very burdensome.

Thanks for your answer. Geopainting is the MapEdit I mentioned in my question.
But what I wanted was to use the calibrated file (*.map) directly in a handheld GPS. Technically it is possible, but I am not aware of a GPS that can display that type of file. wink
