Nuvi 255W troubles

My dad about a month ago bought a nuvi 255w after I reccomended it to him. For a month it worked fine until I moved back to Michigan and tried to make it better for him. First, I registered it for him on the Garmin site. We found out it was eligible for the updated 2009 map so I did that for him. The next thing I did was to install the Eco deal off the web site. Kinda fun to play with. The last thing I did was install the snowmobile off the Garmin site because he liked mine. Now, I do know what I'm doing because this is the 3rd time I've had to do this with the maps and eco deal. Now that I have installed this the gps turns on and as soon as you start moving it freezes up. Every time. There is no reset on this unit and I don't know what else to try. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Now my dad's mad at me for ruining his brand new gps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check for a reset button on

Check for a reset button on the bottom of the unit.If you don't find one slide the power switch to the on position and hold for 8 seconds. To clear user data hold finger on lower right hand part of gps screen while powering up the unit.Keep finger pressed until pop up window appears.Touch yes to clear user data. All original setting will be restored.Any items you saved will be erased. You will lose your favorites.I would hook up the GPS unit to computer and make copy of the favorites located in gpx file.Renamed them after all the resetting and put them back.

255w reset

The reset button on the 255w is on the bottom right edge as the unit faces you, and is underneath the serial number sticker. You'll either have to peel the sticker up for access or poke a hole through it. Hope that helps.

I've tried both suggestions

I've tried both suggestions so far to no avail. Have no idea what to do next? Try and take it back?
