nuvi 780 or 785 ?

I have read with much interest many of the posts about the differences, good and bad, between the 780 and 785.

To date, it seems the single largest complaint people have about the 785/765 over the 780/760 is the lack of detail shown on the maps.

Obviously the detail exists in the maps themselves as it is exactly the same map program and versions, but for some reason Garmin decided nto to allow the newest generation to show all the detail shown on the last generation.

But is that enough to offest the 3D buildings and Lane assist features...or Lifetime traffic ?

Knowing what we know today afte rreading all the reviews, complaints and problems with the new 785/765, would YOU still buy the 785/765 over and above the 780/760 ?

I'm thinking it would be nice to have them BOTH, but I dont' have that kind of money to spend.

For me the lack of detail is

For me the lack of detail is not a big issue. Yes it has less, but at the most level has enough for me. It may be true they did this because the processor could not draw the map well with alot of detail. But I will say the map draw on the 765T is very smooth.
Keep in mind Garmin makes it very hard to judge one unit against another because they do not increment features. Instead they pick and choose, for instance the 800 voice recognition series should have more features than the 7X5 series. While it does have some features the 7X5 series does not, the 7X5 has features, the "higher" series does not.

So you have to decide what is important to you. I have come to the conclusion at this time, with the latest OS updates, the 7X5 series, especially the 765T has the best overall set of features if you do not need or want voice recognition. One possible drawback that can easily be overcome is somewhat low volume. It has been greatly improved thru updates, but can be make very good with Turboccc's voice edit program. I am very happy with the 765T now.

780 vs 785
