Using POI Loader with Map Source

Can I use POI Loader with Map Source. It shows that option with POI Loader, but I can't find the file when I'm in Map Source.

I'm tring to set up routes for a Motorcycle trip to California. I want to see all the Harley Dealers on the routes I've set-up.

I saved the file with Map Source (advanced). and then to c:\Users\owner\Downloads

Congradulations, you have successfully installed **** for Map Source to use.

How do I use them or access them?

open under FILE

look for the file where ever you save it. It should load into your waypoints section of mapsource.

I don't think that works

I don't know for sure, but I'm not sure that option works. I think it is supposed to put the pois into the Mapsource map, but I've never seen it happen.

The file dialog you're talking about in POI Loader is asking where your csv or gpx "source" files are. If your source files were in the C:\Users\owner\Downloads folder, then it made your .gpi file with whatever name you gave it instead of "POI".gpi), and put it in what POI Loader thinks is your Mapsource folder. On my machine it's C:\Documents and Settings\{my user name}\Application Data\GARMIN\Custom POIs.

See if you have a similar folder and look for your gpi file there.

What I do is use .gpx files for POIs that I want to see in MapSource. MS doesn't recognize .gpi files. You can simply open the gpx file from MS and they show up in your waypoint list, and on the map in use.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

So when I'm in MapSource,

So when I'm in MapSource, How can I use or access the Custom POI's?

I have seen some threads on

I have seen some threads on this site that say that MS feature in POI Loader does not work (I have never been able to get it to work either). As stated above MS does not use gpi files. You can't view gpi files in MS.

You can import gpx files in MS (drag and drop works), load Favorites current.gpx to MS from GPSr, or create gpx files in MS. You can edit Waypoint properties to include jpegs, proximity alerts, ...

You can then run these through POI Loader to create Custom POIs / poi.gpi files.

.

Yes, despite that option in POI Loader, MapSource cannot read GPI files, currently.

In order to open Custom POIs in MapSource, they must be GPX files.

mapsource

You can use mapsource to create a gpx file of Harley Dealers.

You can download the Harley Dealers gpx file from the poi factory, save it to a folder on your computer, then open it in mapsource. I just did it.

The creator (Dave817)also assigned map symbols and if you zoom out, you can see all the symbols across the US. I didn't realize there were that many!

You can plot/edit/make your route from this poi file. Not all gpsr's will allow routes or allow mapsource to transfer the newly created route to the gpsr.

You can however, create a poi file from the dealers along your selected route(s)of travel. Save that as a gpx file. Or, just download the entire harley dealers gpx file, download one of the bmp's of your liking and use poi loader, you'll have all the dealers in the US and you'll be done with it.

WOW! I found my H-D gpx file

WOW!

I found my H-D gpx file and copied it, then pasted it into the way points I already added to this route. Over 900 all over the country appeared on the map and in the list.

I think it will be easy enough to delete all the extras.

I still cant get the poi loader to just be avalable in the "un-seen" way points, but that's ok. I can make this work.

Thanks for your help.
