You never know what you a sattelite photo will show

While scanning the Outer Banks of North Carolina, using Google Earth, I found two interesting objects.

This will give you something to do!

-75.495969,35.738305
-75.488737,35.737420

2 needles in a haystack - I mean ocean.

Edit:
I put the l/l like Garmin POI. For Google Earth it's really:

35.738305,-75.495969
35.737420,-75.488737

Sorry about that.

A Pair of F-18s

They might be using the Dare County Target Complex, or heading back to NAS Oceana, VA after using it. They could also be USMC F-18s out of MCAS Cherry Point, NC.

If you look a little west of the aircraft, you will see one of several "bullseyes" at
35°41'21.64"N, 75°53'16.61"W.

That one is the USAF target. The Navy target is just northeast. They are used to drop practice bombs, mostly BDU-33s, about 25 lb. We used to call them "blue death". They have a small cartridge that gives a puff of smoke for spotting the hit.

I do, and no, it is not an Egyptian tomb.

Hmmm......

missle silo would be my guess.

Probably is or was a missile silo.

The Worlds Largest 24-karat Gold Plated Object.

This home is owned by Jim Onan of Wadsworth, IL. It's just off the tollroad near the Illinois/Wisconsin border. The home was built in the shape of a gold plated Pyrmaid and is six stories high. It also has a 3 car garage next to it, also gold planted. The home is surrounded by a moat.
Also, if you scan to the west of the home in Google Earth, you will see the shadow of a 64 foot statue of Ramesses, also gold plated. Too bad its not open to the public any longer.

Go back in time

A few years ago, a commercial jet was over a neighbor's house while on approach to O'Hare, but updated satellite images have shown it's no longer there. I suppose it finally landed.

You can go back in time before the images were updated.

Open google earth, zoom in on a area like over your neighbor's house. Then click on 'View' then scroll down to 'Historical Imagery' and there will be a bar that you can scroll back to the dates available. Scroll it to the dates before the image was updated and wait, it will update from that timeframe.

Wish I had known that a month or 2 ago. The images for Williamsburg, VA were the summer images. Trees in full leaf. They just updated to some winter images and now you can see almost everything.

Some of the l/l listed here will be perplexing to those that follow, as the images get updated. Airplanes in flight will be long gone.
