What maps do I have?

Register your unit at garmin.com.

Download Garmin Web Updater. It will check to see if you have the latest firmware. You may want to back up your files before updating.

If I remember correctly, you select update maps and if there is a newer version, you can download free update.

To determine which map version you have, select
tools>settings>map>map info. I think the latest is CN North America NT 2009.11.

2009.11 is the current latest map version.

Is that the case for all Garmins? When I look at map info, my 750 says "City Navigator North America NT 2009". Or is there a better place to look at the date of my maps?

Most Streetpilot's and Nuvi's that I know of. The 2009 is the most recent year map, and then the quarterly updates are the .xx.

If you go to Wrench/Settings > Map > Map Info, it will show the map version.

Version 2009.1 was released in January 2009. (Version 2009.11 is the same map data version, but the program installer version was tweaked so essentially those two are the same version.)

Version 2009 that you report that you have was released in May 2008.

My guess is that the next update will be released in April 2009. It will likely be 2009.2 or 2010.1 as it remains to be seen how Garmin will number the quarterly map releases.

You can purchase an updated map anytime you want. Since the map updates are now (apparently) going to be released quarterly, I would wait until the beginning of each quarter.

I love how a map that came out in 2008, has a date of 2009. Guess that is true for new cars also. Thanks for the info.

Can anybody comment on the 2009.11 update, worth the upgrade? Have original map for nuvi 200w.

How many places do you drive where the roads are not on the maps you have? In my case, the answer is "never", but YMMV.
