Quirky Directions

The best guess is that the average speeds attached to certain roads is different at different times of the day and that results in different routes being faster depending on the time of day. If you know that different routes are chosen at the precisely same time, that might kill the explanation. Also, if you have an avoidance set for Traffic, that can cause a different route.

Do you switch between different voices? If so, that could account for the different directions. Jack gives you one set of directions while Jill gives different directions!

When you say to the same place from the same route, a mile or two can make a difference on what the Nuvi chooses. Time of day and day of the week also can make a difference.

That is why most of the time I don't have my gps route me, it is just there. When I am going to someplace new or am in an unfamiliar area I let the gps find my way. I don't know a different path to argue about it! Also remember that the nuvi doesn't like you to make left turns...

My Nuvi has a mind of it's own! Most of the time it is good, sometimes it thinks outside the box whether I like it or not.

My nuvi 200 sometimes tells me that a forest service road is sometimes faster...So I have sometimes trusted the unit and it has led me to something that could only be called a quad trail that was not even big enough to get my truck on at all???

My Nuvi 680 has sent me to the same forest service roads as yours. It then tells me to turn right which would take me into a large oak tree. After finally finding my way back to civilization, I reprogramed and it insisted that I go back to the same road to oblivion.

its quite annoying when it says to get into the exit lanes for some off ramps, then to drive past the ramp and re-merge with the expressway...
