Recovering Favorites Files from nuvi 760 with cracked screen

sad

I am wondering if it is possible to recover my favorites from a nuvi 760 and transfer them to a nuvi 765. I cracked the screen on my nuvi 760 earlier today after tripping and falling in a parking lot and scraping myself up pretty good (I had the nuvi in a carrying case but guess I fell on the case). I've been able to hook it up to my computer via the USB cable and can see the files but don't know which ones might contain the favorites. If anyone could help it would be appreciated.

Here's a thread

that has some information about backing up and restoring favorites on Nuvi 350. It should work the same for your 760.

Hope this helps.

FreddyP..

I had seen the current.gpx file when I was going through the backup I was able to get from the nuvi 760 and thought that it might contain all the favorites. I'll copy it over to the 765 and see if that works. I'll post a reply when I know something. Thanks for your help. grin

And remember

to name it something other than current.gpx when you copy it to the other unit. As one person pointed out in the thread.

I copied the current.gpx file over to the 765 and that works! Thanks again for your help! grin

I renamed the existing current.gpx file on the 765 first then copied the current.gpx file from the 760 over to the 765 (before I read your post above). I think that the other person's thought was to know what date the 760's data was current to. Thanks for the info.

Nope

On many units (most?), the gps will append any gpx file to the favorites, EXCEPT for a file named current.gpx. With many models, the ideal name is temp.gpx because the unit will erase that file after it is added to favorites, therefore avoiding re-adding the file with each shutdown.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
