Rest Stop Alerts Don't Alet

I've tried all the suggestions that I've received on this forum plus a few more and the only way I can get the rest stop alert to work is when I program a particular rest stop as a destination or waypoint. Then, instead of beeping at 3,000 ft as I programmed, it beeps at the entrance to the stop. Any suggestions.
I'm using a Nuvi 260.

As you are using a 200 series Nuvi, your audio alert has to be a .wav file AND you must have SOX.EXE stored in the same folder as POILoader.EXE.
The file names must match, character by character until the period marking the beginning of the extension. As the raw file is RestAreasCombined(Ver.J).csv, you CANNOT use this file name as it has 2 (TWO) extensions according to the way Microsoft operates. You MUST remove the (Ver.J) from the name before running POILoader. The same for your sound file and icon. If you do not remove them, then the file does not work. The file name RestAreasCombined.csv will work each and every time. Rename the .wav to RestAreasCombined.wav and the icon to RestAreasCombined.bmp and everything WILL work.

Give us an example -- the exact coordinates of a location that is not working for you.
Edit:
You said in another thread that you were on I-55 in mid IL. If that was NB MM27, I can tell you that it works fine on my 660 -- doing a simulation. It appears to be positioned about 50 ft off the road in an effort to alert only for the NB lane. If yours doesn't alert there, you might want to test your unit by changing the longitude to -89.8579 -- that is right at the edge of the road. If that causes the alert to trigger, it would tell you that your unit doesn't like POIs to be 50 ft from the road.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
Do you get Bong Bong (or Wav
Do you get Bong Bong (or Wav Alert) and grey 'Alert: Rest Area Name Screen Icon' when you set Rest Area as destination? If so, your coordinates must be more than 50 feet off the road. Otherwise, you should get an alert when driving past Rest Area(s).
You could also try making file a TourGuide file which alerts on a radius.

Works for me !

My files as I load them with POI Loader have the version in them as follows and they work just fine.
RestAreasCombined(Ver.K).bmp
RestAreasCombined(Ver.K).csv
RestAreasCombined(Ver.K).wav
I have a later version on mine, than is posted, as this version (so far) has only 1 minor change to it and I haven't uploaded it !

File Name Extensions
From wikipedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filename_extension)
Eventually, Windows introduced support for long file names, and removed the 8.3 name/extension split in file names, in an extended version of the commonly used FAT file system called VFAT. VFAT first appeared in Windows NT 3.5 and Windows 95. The internal implementation of long file names in VFAT is largely considered to be a kludge, but it removed the important length restriction, and allowed files to have a mix of upper case and lower case letters, on machines that would not run Windows NT well. However, the use of three-character extensions under Microsoft Windows has continued, originally for backward compatibility with older versions of Windows and now by habit, along with the problems it creates.
Security issues
The default behavior of Windows Explorer, the file browser provided with Windows, is for file extensions not to be shown. Malicious users have tried to spread computer viruses and computer worms by using file names formed like LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs. The hope is that this will appear as LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT, a harmless text file, without alerting the user to the fact that it is a harmful computer program, in this case written in VBScript.
Later Windows versions (starting with Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003) included customizable lists of file extensions that should be considered 'dangerous' in certain 'zones' of operation, such as when downloaded from the web or received as an e-mail attachment. Modern antivirus software systems also help to defend users against such attempted attacks where possible.
There have been instances of malware crafted to exploit vulnerabilities in some Windows applications which could cause a stack-based buffer overflow when opening a file with an overly long, unhandled file extension.
I'm from the old school where everything after a period in a file name is a file extension. With the number of problems users have been experiencing with multiple file extensions on their POI, why not be save and have only one string that could be interpreted as a file extension.

You may have a problem with the location of the coordinates.Try using the Rest stop combined file by MrKenFL at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6643 .They work well and the coordinates are at the entrance of the rest stop.Reading your post you are using the built in alert the bong sound not the voice alert using a wav file.Is that correct? You should get the alert at 3000 ft.You see road way signs mostly at 1 mile.I set my unit to alert at 8000 ft.
Note.On your post you have the distance as 3,000 using the comma. If that is the way you put it in the manual mode with poiloader you will get alert at 3.8 ft.It has to be 3000 with no comma.

The fact you are using a MAC may also be a factor. The MAC O/S handles file names and extensions differently than Windoze.

Here is the site to get POILoader for Mac. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3697 these are the changes
Change History
Changes made from version 2.0.1 to 2.1.0:
Fixed sending of linked data in GPX files
Added manual mode
Added option to remove all POIs from a device
Added support for 16-bit mono encoded WAV files
It appears by the last sentence you can use wav files and not have to download the sox file. Some other Mac users reported that before.

I wasn't looking for a MAC version. I was making the statement that MrKenFL uses a MAC and the MAC O/S handles file names and extensions differently than a Windoze machine.

My mistake.Thought you were talking about the OP.But it is interesting about added support for 16-bit mono encoded WAV files.

I use both
I use both a Mac Mini (Intel) and a Dell Laptop running XP.
I pretty much use them independently with my GPSr's. I update my units using either computer for the mapping software, POI's, firmware/software versions, voices etc.
I generate POI's using either and transfer between them with a memory stick. Right now I am running 33 different POI files on my GPSr's with corresponding .bmp, .wav, and Tourguides. I run 7 files with Tourguide.
The funny thing is I ALWAYS send the updates of the "Rest Areas Combined" POI file to POI Factory using the Dell Laptop !
Just the way I do things.
I guess I'm just ambidextrous !

My files are labeled just Rest Areas, so when I d/l the update I rename and have never had a problem.
