Nuvi 755 - Wheres Proximity Alerts

POIs are loaded and working along with a new icon for rest areas. The owner's manual says "To change the proximity alert setting, touch TOOLS > SETTINGS > PROXIMITY POINTS > PROXIMITY ALERTS. There is no such setting on my unit. The PROXIMITY POINTS setting is missing. What's up with that?

Do you have any poi's with alerts loaded?

I deleted my poi's with alerts from my 270 and the option to enable them disappeared.. I still have the option to enable my european enforcement cameras thought.. (I'm not going to delete them to further check what happens...) rolleyes

.

Yeah, you won't get that option unless you have Custom POIs loaded that have alert information in them.

Using POI Loader, you must

Using POI Loader, you must load in Manual Mode and select Speed or Proximity settings.

.

Or if the files have built in alerts, those settings will be used in either Manual or Express Mode.

I removed and then loaded

I removed and then loaded the RestArea(verJ) poi again and this time chose manual and set it to 2 miles. It never alerts even when going right by the rest area every day on my way to work. Previous version(verI) download worked fine.

Secondly, I loaded a custom icon for the RestArea.csv file and named it the same. When I do a 'where to' and select custom I can find the restarea and display the map that shows the icon I want. But it never showa up during routing or regular map view - only the small dot shows up. Ideas.

Rest Area Problem

This is something you have probably done a couple of times already, but it is worth double, triple or even quadruple checking.

First off, verify the site is in the file. Several rest areas have been closed and it is possible an editing error may have removed the wrong listing.

Second, use a program such as itouchmap to verify where the actual coordinates from the file are located. Mr. Ken and I played with a location on a road near me for a couple of iterations before we got it to alert only in the direction of travel as it would alert both east and west bound when the stop was westbound only. Verify where the reference point is and that it is close to the road, no more than approximately 50 feet from the side of the road.

Third, verify the file names. Even though the case of the letters may not be important to the loader, I ALWAYS make certain mine match EXACTLY including misplaced capital letters, dashes or hyphens and all match.

Fourth, be absolutely certain there are no and I repeat NO double file extensions. This means the rest area file, the icon, and the MP3 sound file should be something like rest areas - combined.EXT. If there are two periods in the name such as (ver.J), then the file name becomes something like rest areas-combined(ver.J with everything after the version letter becoming an extension and double extension.

Fifth, verify the map display on your unit. For ease of troubleshooting, put the unit in 2D mode. This will help insure the icons are displayed.

Sixth, depending on how you load or organize your custom POI, insure the file is loaded and part of the POI.GPI file used by the Garmin.

Resolved - Thanks for the advise

"a_user" hit the nail on the head. I had a double file extension embedded in the gpi file name. After fixing that then the icon and alerts work as designed.
