An insider talk about a redlight camera

I had a chance to talk to an off-duty police officer yesterday, who told me a little about the Lone Tree redlight camera (-104.87305, 39.53629, Red Light Camera .026dr, CO Lone Tree poi-factory Feb25 09).

Apparently, the range for the speed-triggered camera had been set too far. Without anyone running the red light, an approaching car would trigger the camera, forcing the city (or its contractor) to sort through to see if there were actual violations.

They've had so many calls from drivers who complained that they were "flashed" without running the red light. The city had to explain about the false alarm so often that they readjusted the range.

It was interesting to hear a police officer's gripe about a redlight camera in his jurisdiction.
