NEW! Power up a NUVI 7x0 using a non Garmin power supply

I remember back around last April we were all trying to get our Garmin 7x0 to power up in the Navigational mode instead of the Mass Storage mode using a non Garmin power supply. And also while it is connected to the PC.

We all tried different methods to accomplish this, and finally came up with somehow using the power switch in the lock position, unplugging the 750 and plugging the 750 back up immediately and then sliding the power switch back to the middle position.

Well all that seems to have changed now.

It might be a generic (Ver.) upgrade but I now find
that if I power up the 7x0 using a non Garmin power adapter that after it comes up in the Mass Storage mode, simply unplug the 7x0 and plug it back in immediately one it starts to boot up again.

And WALA it comes up in the Navigation mode now with out having to manipulate any switches or other tricks.

I tried this using a Motorola adapter and also the USB cord while it's connected to my PC.

This has been posted and works using a Garmin power supply also, either USB on the computer, or usb in the car. It is one of the tips listed at several sites.
FYI, it does not seem to work if you use the security lock on your unit.

good tip...

Users also need to remember that a Garmin branded charger is rated at 1 amp output. Usually, Motorola chargers are only rated at 1/2 amp so your charge time may take longer compared to the Garmin charger.

1/2 Amp vs. 1 Amp

But the USB port on your computer only puts out a half amp as well.

I realize that. That's why I mentioned that *in comparison to the Garmin branded charger*, don't expect the Motorola to perform equally as well as the Garmin in regards to charging time since it puts out 1/2 the amperage.
