Why my screens are sluggish after loading POI Files?

question question question On my 265WT, I have observed that since the day I have loaded POI Files, my screen has become little sluggish.

When zoomed in to see the POI Icons, I am seeing a lot of lag in my route naviagation! If I zoomout, I cannot see the icons, but my route navigation improves drastically!

Has anyone observed this? If you did, is there any workaround this? I really dont want to get rid of the Custom POIs!!!

question question

hmmm

I haven't noticed this. I have seen some people complaining about their units being sluggish after an update to the firmware, but not for poi's. I know that on Garmins', you can choose to unload the custom poi's on "poiloader". You should try that and see what that does for you.

300 Feet

My streetpilot and nuvi 760 start to show the custom poi's at 300 feet, but not the built in ones. Normally this does not cause a sluggish problem.

If you are zoomed it all the way, it may be that it is trying to refresh so often that it appears sluggish. Try 300 feet and see what it does.

Too many

How many POI do you have loaded (the total number that POI Loader gives you)? You might try paring it down and see if performance improves. I have some POI files with 20,000+ entries. I filter them down to just the locations in my region, and that seems to help a lot.

About 30k+...

I have almost 30k+ POIs. I think could be firmware problem. LEt me remove POIs down to less than 10k. If that works ok, I will know the issue.

Thanks for the insight!

Shouldn't Matter

I don't think it should matter if you are only running with 30k. I have about 100k in my 760 and it is fine.

question question

As for the sluggishnes (sp) I have found on my 265wt that when I pair it up to a Bluetooth phone that is not on teh list it causes my unit to be sluggish and the voice prompts to not work. If you have Bluetooth enabled you might want to shutt it off and see if it makes a difference.

Media Card vs. Unit

I know this is not the problem you are seeing but on a related note, I have loaded my POIs both on a media card as well as on the unit itself.

The response time to search my custom POIs is much faster on the media card than on the unit.

If your POIs are on the unit, you want want to try loading them on a media card to see if that eliminates the sluggishness.
