I was driving eastbound on US 60 (5 lanes each direction) through Phoenix and was getting speed camera alerts when the cameras were actually in the westbound direction.
Has this been a problem?
Reversible cameras!???
Alerts
What was the camera location name you received the alert on? Miss POI has each of them named (ie .020kt). That will help narrow things down if it's a simple lat/lon error, etc.

I have
I have found driving in the valley that some of the camera location need to be moved. I have gone thru the cvs files and made adjustments to the exact location and this has help on most of the single cameras,,I also have put in the exact address like rual & baseline or I-10 and 35th Ave so I know where these cameras are so if change is needed it is easier to update. I for one would like all the camera files to show there locations its easier to update instead of duplicate. I am always checking these locations as I drive and if it needs to be moved then I will move it to be spot on accurate.

No directional warnings?
I think I read somewhere that most GPS's, including Garmin, cannot give directional warnings as the proximity warning is circular?
If anyone does know how to make a Garmin trigger a directional alert I'd love to know how!
Locations??

I do not get over that way often. I would be guessing at camera location. Somewhere between 101 loop and 202 loop.
Maybe one of the locals over there can check them out.

The Rest Areas POI is directional and does not alert in the other direction.

This is normal type of behavior. GPS doesn't have option for direction. As soon as you are within your alert distance from the camera it triggers alert. The same is for red-light cameras. It isn't just for the opposite direction traffic, in cases of cameras being located on a freeway close to overpass, you get alert, although not even on the same road.
We have to live with it, at least for now.
Phil & ramcruzer r da men.
I'd guess it's probably the coordinate placement that needs tweaking. I haven't done enough actual testing to know myself, but Phil and ramcruzer are the resident experts I think:

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

User installed Custom POIs on Garmin GPS units are not directional. They will alert in either direction if the location is within the alert parameters.
The Rest Area Combined file locations have been meticulously placed at the entrance ramps of the rest areas.
Since these are primarily interstates and divided roadways, there is less of a chance that they will alert when coming from the other direction.
With other Custom POIs, this isn't always the case and you will sometimes get an alert from the other direction.
There's nothing you can do about it other than perhaps tweaking the coordinates but that might affect the location alert in the "proper" direction.

I think you are driving on routes that have a wider separation than many that I use.
I often get alerts for Rest Areas on both sides of the highway.

Yes I have found that nearly every freeway camera that was added since the new cameras went up last October are about a 1/4 mile off. It is like people hit the location button when they got right at the camera, then hit the save button to save their current position which is now past the camera since they are driving at 70mph. Some of the new ones on the Westbound I10 and North and Southbound 101 in the West valley are horribly off. I have it set to notify me at 1/4 mile and it is chiming when I am past the cameras(and no it is not reading cameras on the other side of the freeway, these are the only camera in that location). I have been saving the exact locations myself on my phones voice recorder but haven't had time to go through them yet.

I wonder
I wonder if miss poi would like these files that I have done on the speed cameras, I have taken only the Az file cut out the other states(if I travel outside of Az I can load them back in 2 seconds) and fine tuned the az location to almost right on the spot kinda like nasa accurate. I also have ways to keep up dates thru city and goverment webb site to see what new cameras are popping up and I drive this city daily.

Interesting! What kind of GPS you've been using? I haven't reported those locations but at least 101 NB&SB are very accurate on my GPS. I have my alert set to 1000 & 500 ft, and don't have problems with late alert. I haven't driven I-10 WB (west of I-17) for a while now so I can't say anything about those cameras.
Directional Alerts
Speed cameras by their own design are directional. They look at traffic on their side of the road. Red light cameras are directional, you see them on diagonal corners of the intersection.
Speed cameras are normally set to read traffic in one direction only.
If gps alerts cannot be set directional as has been indicated in this thread then in areas like Phoenix, where there is numerous cameras, alerts may not be as effective.
Maybe its my imagination but I only found two locations that alerted with cameras looking in the other direction. I noticed it because there were no signs in my direction. What was different with all the others?
