Help please with POI files

How do I make my garmin use a sound file with an associated POI?

I'm new to this and not really sure how this works...
It alerts me on the POI's but it dings at me instead of playing the sounds I have loaded on the SD card.

Thanks in advance for your time.

It all depends on the gps you have.. I see you have a 250 which requires a wav file and sox.exe. It is discussed at length in several posts.. do a search for sox...

edit click here arrow http://www.poi-factory.com/search/node/sox

But to give you a little

But to give you a little back ground.. You need to get the sox.exe file (Which you will fine in your search) Put it in the same folder as the poi loader is in. Convert an mp3 file to a wav file, name it exactly the same as the .csv file except for the extension. Save the wav file in the same folder with the .csv file and if you want an icon store the bmp file, also with the exact same name, excluding extension, in the same folder with the .csv and .wav files. Then run poi loader and you will be all set... It's really a lot simpler than you may think... wink

I thank you all for chiming

I thank you all for chiming in so quickly.

I followed your instructions to the "T" and everthing goes well until I get to the screen in POIloader that actually uploads everything to the garmin.

I keep getting an error that "sox" can't convert my audio files. It does it on every audio file.

It does upload everything but the audio files.

All of my audio files were made with the AT&T text to speech webpage listed on this site... Al are being saved in wav format and very small files.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

They have to be 16 bit mono

I forget all of the parameters but there are some wav files being up loaded to this site... I have used the ATT site but as an mp3 file. do you have Nero by any chance? If so Nero wave editor can save them in the correct format. Also there are some free converters around but I use Nero so I'm not familiar with them. I'm sure by tomorrow others will have chimed in an give you further assistance...

When using the conversion it

When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say.

Edit.Check the following.
a. Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e.Make sure you don't have double extensions. If you have XP go to control panel select folder options and click on it,click view tab.Find "hide extensions for file known types".Take the check mark out. This will help you id the double extensions if you have them.
