Voices have disappeared on 750

All of a sudden, the voices on my Nuvi 750 are gone. I turned the unit off for a food stop, then when I turned it back on, directions were not being spoken. The think has gone mute before and I had to go select the voice in the Languages setting, but this time i got a message "None Found" under voices.

Where did they go and how do i get them back?

Nuvi 750 gone mute

Try resetting the unit by pushing and holding the on-off switch to the left for 10 seconds and then release it. This should restore the original settings.

Hook it up to the computer and run Web Updater. If they are really gone from the unit, it will offer you a chance to download. I'd probably look at the voice folder before running Web Updater to see if the files show, but, regardless, you must run Web Updater if the unit can't see them.

From a Cardinal.

I have a 760 and it did it

I have a 760 and it did it to me once. I went back into settings and language to find that Jack or Jill had been changed, somehow, to a non-TTS. Once I changed it back, it has worked fine.

Hope this helps. If it is due to something else, let us know.

Same thing happened to me on the 750. Had to go in and chose a TTS voice and everything was OK....Voices were all still there even though it said none available....

Reset 750

Exactly the same thing happened to me once I turned off my 750 while it was "loading maps". I did what a previous person said (Try resetting the unit by pushing and holding the on-off switch to the left for 10 seconds and then release it. This should restore the original settings.) and it worked perfectly.

+4 or 5>>>

seems to be a typical Garmin glitch

It's been explained over and

It's been explained over and over and over ad nauseaum that this is caused by cutting the unit off when it appears that the unit is hung "loading maps". In actuality the unit is doing an internal defrag and should be left alone to finish and continue to boot.

Just do a search on Losing Voice and read all the threads on it.

But the tone was a bit harsh. This is the first time I have read about and was curious as to what caused the problem.

for the record, my wife's unit shut down normally and the voices were lost anyway...there was no hanging as you say.

Don't be so sure

Don't be so sure it has been explained over and over, nor that this is the real cause.

As another poster stated, I too have experienced the loss of the voice where the unit was shut down normally after use, not loading maps, and it lost the voice.

They came back

Meant to post sooner, but forgot. After being off overnight, the voices were back. I had to go back in and select "American English-Jill" as the voice, but they were there. Don't know what happened, the unit must have just had a temporary overnight case of laryngitis. smile

Anyway, all is well now.

There is a discussion that addresses this (I think the 760 4.6 firmware discussion). I cannot remember the post, but the skinny of it has to do with the trip log topping out and the defrag routine running on power up. If this was noticed after the unit took 3 years and a day to load the maps - then this is what caused your loss. This happened to me when I was traveling and had to nav by sight before I figured out that the voice was not selected.

Hope this helps

I just had this problem today for the first time, so I had never looked for a solution. Been searching for an answer. Yours seems to be what was causing my problem as I did switch it off due to slow map loading. Hope that solves it.

Thanks.
