Help!

It snowed (very lightly) as I came out of my house this morning. No news for those living in snowland. It only snows here when snow gets angry and does rarely so. This is the "uppest" part of the upper Pacific Northwest. Canada is a stone throw away. Thankfully, the snow went away very quickly.

Wish spring is here.

65 here in Cleveland Today, 18" or more of snow melted and grass is finally seen again (not seen since Christmas).
There is a problem, the rivers have 1 1/2 -2 feet of ice trying to move to Lake Erie that also has ice on it, causing ice jams. The rivers are now flooding their banks and wreaking havoc with large thick sheets of ice. when jammed, the ice moves but not toward the lake, rather toward the homes built on river banks and low laying areas. Last two day have been sunny and just beautiful for the middle of February which just adds to the flooding with the melting snow. And heavy rain due tomorrow to add insult to injury,The Cutter Neah Bay will break up the ice dam at the mouth of the Grand river this in the morning, then make it's way up the river to try and make the ice flow.

I didn't bother to read the links, because I have owned one of these for 12 year in one model incarnation or another. I have literally watched cops scratch there heads as I pass by, as long as I am within speed at punch through range. Punch through is what it's all about, so if you know how to use the device believe me they work. you still have to be aware of your surroundings, thats why I also have a V1. OBTW I have never got a ticket with the unit nor has my wife with hers.

I just got thinking....how many potatoes does one plant usually produce? I've learned the hard way that potatoes tend to sprout if left sitting around...and and i was thinking....they've GOT to produce more than one per plant once they get going...otherwise...we'd plant 1 potato...get one potato....

Spring Spuds

10 to 1 on average per whole potatoe.
Each seed potato is cut into thirds, each third becomes a seed. Each seed produces on average 4 potatoes. Mild and average rainfall will increase your yield, dry hot weather does the opposite, the variety you plant will also affect the outcome.

I have to wait another 1 1/2 months to plant here,
love home grown sweet potatoes as well, get some big boys here in Cleveland.

Hot Temps

A record 43 degrees here yesterday. We had a lot of rain and now the roads here are water-over-ice. Almost impossible to walk on without slipping. I had to take the 4x4 to get to the mailbox. I have to really hand it to the cars they make now...they can make it though conditions you can't even walk on.

No problem...to each their own. There is an awful lot of scientific evidence though that they don't work, and people with police friends, etc. with radar guns that test. One of those links though shows how they get out of paying a claim. They only pay the actual speeding fine, not the civic part of the fine which is most of it. My wife and I haven't had a ticket either the last 12 years, and we don't use detectors or jamming devices.

I think the best way to get out of a ticket when you get pulled over is to make a playful grab for the officer's gun. You'd both probably share a good laugh and he'd let you off the hook for such a great joke!

If I recall from last year each plant produced about 3 potatoes, or roughly about 1 lb. I think I dug about 30 lbs of potatoes or so from 30 plants. But I think Bob's number is a better guess. My harvest seemd to be less than in years past.

Also, good point by Bob on the number of sets. I think I used only needed 3 or 4 seed potatoes to set the 30 plants.

Muder at Walmart

Tired of constantly being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife with himself as the beneficiary, and then arranging to have her killed.
A 'friend of a friend' put him in touch with a nefarious dark-side underworld figure who went by the name of 'Artie.'
Artie then explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was $5,000.
The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money.
Artie insisted on being paid at least something up front, so the man opened his wallet, displaying the single dollar bill that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept the dollar as down payment for the dirty deed.
A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Super Wal-Mart store. There, he surprised her in the produce department and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands and as the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath and slumped to the floor ........ the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the murder scene. Unwilling to leave any living witnesses behind, ol' Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well.
However, unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by the hidden security cameras and observed by the store's security guard, who immediately called the police. Artie was caught and arrested before he could even leave the store.

Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the whole sordid plan, including his unusual financial arrangements with the hapless husband who was also quickly arrested.
The next day in the newspaper, the headline declared ...

'ARTIE CHOKES 2 for $1.00 AT WAL-MART!'
