Garmin Nuvi 370 question or any nuvis with 2 maps

I have a friend who wants to update his nuvi 370 USA map. It has Europe as well. I have a different nuvi that has the US maps only. He's confused on updating and asked for help. What I need to know, is the update for the 2009 US map going to overwrite both US and Europe or does he need USA and Europe to update them? My main concern is if the unit or the software will do the update for the USA map only without affecting the Europe maps. Thanks.

The preloaded maps (Europe and North America) are in two different files on the unit.
Each map update will update that specific map area and will not affect the other one.
Bear in mind that if he wants to update both mapsets, he would need to purchase separate map updates for each one. But it's not necessary at all to update them both. The unit will function just fine.
As with all major operations to the unit, it's ALWAYS advisable to fully back up the unit to the computer BEFORE doing either update.
