Seattle, WA wants to track and tax based on GPS info

Just heard on the news that Seattle wants to keep track of when and how their citizens use the roadways. This information would be fed into gas pumps when they fill up and add a fee into that total based on if they use it during prime time hopeing to get revenue and cut back on when and where they drive.

Not sure that'll fly. Seems like a big invasion of privacy.

Toll Roads

Yep - looking to make a buck. There has been talk in kansas of adding a surcharge to your toll on the turnpike if you get to the plaza faster than you should have.

Road sensors should already be able to give them the data of how traffic is moving.

Big Brother

Big Brother is getting closer and closer. Oregon is getting on the bandwagon also. They call it a mileage tax. Replaces the gas tax........

Tracking

How were they going to track, tapping into your Cell phone G.P.S. transponder, that the government now uses to track individuals’ movements. The cell phone transponder was first implemented solely for the “911" purpose to assist victims of auto accidents. Is critics worst views coming into place? Your every move is followed by big brother, and the big commercial enterprise. Business wishes to track you for advertizing purposes, ie. How many time you visits Starbucks etc.

Man, talk about a book keeping nightmare! Each person would have a different amount added to their pump total. Then the gas station would have to keep track of how much of each sale is supposed to go to the state. That should add at least $0.50 to the price of gas.

What's wrong with what they do now, a road tax on each gallon of gas? If it doesn't generate enough money then act like you got a pair and raise the tax rate.

It'll only fly if we the voters allow it.

We are a part of an increasingly changing world. I would not be surprised at anything I hear today. We have so easily accepted and rely on all this new technology that the potential real purpose it was developed has some underlying human tracking scheme. We are stuck now. We can't go anyplace without 12 cameras recording us and our cell phone tells government exactly where we are. I was always one of the first to get any new technology and the trend for tracking our every move is now apparent to me.

They are trying to collect taxes from the Prius drivers, and the future electric car/alt fuels etc. who don't need any/as much gas.

Na-ahh

out of state

Seems like another horrible government (sorry about being redundant) program.

So, are they going to try to also charge for miles used out of state? What about out of state cars, no tax? And if that is so, wonder how many in state cars will somehow have the devices broken or removed?

pathetic...
