Reduction in NC Cameras

About 4 years ago, Guilford County (NC) School System challenged the use of red light cameras in High Point (NC). When the cameras were installed, the money from the fines was going to the city and the company that operated the cameras. NC law says that either 60% or 80% of the fines from traffic citations goes to the school systems.

High Point lost it's case in superior and appalet courts for over a million dollars to the Guilford County School System. This case set presidence in NC and most of the cameras in the state were cut off becuase the cities were losing money after the school system and the camera companies got their piece of the pie.

Illegal and perhaps inefficient

Illegal... But, it seems that they are even inefficient!!! A UK city removed all his speed cameras for that reason: http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/67507

The End...

Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end for Red Light Cameras!

We can only hope. But they say wish in one hand .....

Uk Speedcams illegal??

Well it appears this is correct and is not spam, unless the Houses of Parliament approve them, then all speedcams are illegal. The case is going to the House of Lords soon for a judgement, if the guy wins then all speeding fines will have to be refunded--wow what chaos will that cause, not only that but all the points put onto millions of drivers licences will have to be taken off as well.
It appears that the transport ministers of each elected government forgot to ask Parliament for approval of speedcams--So yes at this moment in time they could all be illegal!

Power to the people

France has similar problems

I've just found another article in French (http://antiliberal.over-blog.net/article-25721807.html) that shows that their are also problems in France. In short this article says that the fines that are simply sent by post (without registration) are illegal. Thousands of drivers are concerned.

Amen

After the end, the beginning

I'm afraid that "end" will be followed by a new "begin"...

I've just read that Switzerland will test a new kind of average speed cameras, that records your number plate at a given point and then again a few kilometer later and then compute the average speed. This business brings that much money to the state I'm sure that the authorities will always find a way to tax us...

I'm already familiar with them, because, as the article says:-
"This system has already proved its worth in Italy, Austria, the Netherlands and the UK."

This is the system in use in the UK:-
