760 "Nuvi 7 Series Software Version 4.30" ??

I am new around here and this is somewhat a multi-part question and would appreciate any insight you all have.

I received/purchased a 770 for Chrismtas. My parents received a 760. Upon using my 770, it seemed as if there were alot of streets that weren't labeled. Comparing side by side with my parents 760 this weekend theirs definitely labels more streets than mine does, specifically when on a highway or going faster so the the map zooms out. When goign above 60, I get virtually no street labeling of any of the surrounding streets. I am trying to figure out how to solve this on my 770 and any help would be great.

Both are units set to the most detail, under 3D view and both came with the current 2009 north american maps.

Their 760 is running "Nuvi 7 Series Software Version 4.30"

My 770 is now running 770 version 4.2. (I just updated from the 3.2 it came with) I am hesitant to update to 4.6 because of the stuttering issues folks have had.

So....

One, I can't find mention of any generic Nuvi 7 series software 4.30 on the web anywhere....could this be the difference in the performance. Where did this software version come from?

Two, Is it much simpler and there is some street labeling setting that I can't find?

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Thanks for any help you all can provide.

Zoom Level???

In addition to using the same settings on both GPS'r's:

Are both GPS'rs at the same zoom level?

Zoom all the way in via the "+" sign on both, then zoom out via the "-" sign three times on both. Do they look similar?

I generally zoom out 5 times... seems to have sufficient detail.

Yes, they were at the same

Yes, they were at the same zoom level. The map, the roads, everything looked exactly the same except the some of the roads weren't labeled. The roads coming up ahead would appear at the same time and everything, just not as many labels.

interesting issue. So you

interesting issue. So you mean by labels as not as many street names displayed, I would guess. Do they display at a different zoom level? Or do they not display at any zoom level?

Map view

try setting map view to normal detail under 3d, less time to redraw map screen

Same Maps?

Have you verified they are the same map releases?

Thanks for all the

Thanks for all the responses.

Both maps list "City Navigator North America NT 2009" in the map info.

I will go take a quick drive under normal detail to see if that changes.

The map on my 770 knows the name, because often it will list it on top as an upcoming street or exit, it often just doesn't label street with the name.

I have played with zoom levels and it hasn't seemed to help. Typically though it is when on a highway going 60-70 and the street is say .5 mile or more away. Zooming in typically just eliminates the street from the map.

Has anyone heard of the software my parents have on their 760? "Nuvi Series 7 Software Version 4.30" ?? Under Settings/System/About

Normal detail under 3D just

Normal detail under 3D just eliminates some of the roads that were labeled in the 760. More detail returns the roads, but still no street labels. What is interesting, is that once I slow to say 30 mph, and come into a suburb area, the maps and street labels are almost identical...so it is mostly at higher speeds or when zoomed out.

That was the fimware prior to the newest version 4.60 that corrected some routing optimization problems that were caused by 4.30.
