720 won't make left turn to destination?

Why is it when a destination is on the left my TomTom won't make a left turn to it? Instead, it makes a left at an intersection, then a right and another right.. and another right. Turn restrictions seem to allow a left turn on the map and I've noticed this more than once. Is there a way to turn the preference for a right turn off?

Might be a map error

If it doesn't do this ALL the time, it might be a map error....showing the road/street as having a solid divider when it really doesn't.

Frustrating Map Errors

I agree with ka1167. I have seen this too and it is frustrating, especially when the error is not obvious.

I would recommend doing a map correction to see if there are any blocked streets, one way streets, or some other problem and then correcting it.

I remember making a change once where my GO 930 insisted on taking me off the freeway onto the access road for about 1/2 mile, then get back on the freeway. I checked to make sure the map showed the road open (i.e., it wasn't blocked), changed the speed on the access road to 45 mph and it still wanted to route me that way. Lately, that problem has gone away. I wish I knew why, but I won't argue with having it work correctly now. Either my changes finally took effect, or someone else made a change that worked. rolleyes

It appears that the map

It appears that the map thinks this road is a divided highway, two lanes on each side but does not include the middle turn lane. Slight annoyance but I know the maps aren't perfect.

Jug-handles

Maybe the cartographer is/was from New Jersey where most (if not all) left turns are made from the right lane using the infamous 'jug-handle'! wink

Sorry

Sorry ka1167, that was one of the selling points for me to chose the GO 930 over the Garmin Nuvis. I have had a Garmin 60CS for years that I still use when I do field work. It was frustrating seeing what appears to be a simple error and unable to do anything about it short of buying a new map and hoping it has that error corrected.
