Garmin Nuvi 780 to be discontinued??

Is the Nuvi 780 going away?? I was hoping to pick one up from Big Box Buy for $299 but it is no longer listed online and the last time I went into one of their stores there wasn't a tag for this model. I guess the 785T is the replacement. Anyone have any info that I can't find?

Thanks.

yep

I had received one for Christmas, but when I turned it on, it said it was missing the system files.

Called Garmin and they said since it was so new, I should return to the store. If I returned to Garmin, I would likely get a refurb.

I called best buy every day for two weeks waiting for a new one to come in so I could exchange.

Finally a manager said that it was discontinued so I had to go with the 265wt.

Is'nt the 265wt a lower model than the Nuvi 780?

replacement for 780

so if the 780 is soon to be discontinued what would be a model that is just as good with all the same features as the 780?

780

The 785T has the features and the MSN antenna. If you don't need MSN, then it would be the 765T.

He probably meant that the store had discontinued selling the unit. Garmin certainly hasn't discontinued the 7x0 line.

I like this model

It acquires signal much faster than Nuvi 750.

780

IMO the 7x0 series is probably on the way out. The 7x5 series has been released for awhile now. The 8x5 series replaced the 8x0 series before the new models are even out.

OOPS!

OOPS!

Nuvi 780

The Nuvi 780 is no longer available in the Denver area

Best Buy in the Denver front range no longer carries the 780, and it is no longer on Best Buys web site. There are several places on line that claim to have them in stock. Just before Xmas Best Buy was selling the 780 for $270.00, what a great deal that was (it went up to $299.00). On Gamins web site the 770 is still listed but the MSRP is listed as NA. I guess that is what will happen to the entire 7X0 line soon.

Nuvi 780

So what?

If it is discontinued, so what. Is it required that all of us 780 owners turn them in to Garmin or something? Haven't seen anything in a newer models that would tempt me to upgrade. Perfectly happy with my 780. Does everything I want and more. Works as good as it did the day I took it out of the box.

$249

I received a booklet from Costco yesterday that showed the 780 will be $249, $100 off.

This is why Costco has

This is why Costco has cheaper prices. If you ever see a good price on a GPS, you can be sure it is being discontinued.

Costco has it, you can bet on it!

Discontinued

From looking at the Garmin site it looks like the entire 7XX series is gone with the 7X5 series as replacements.

205 is only model now without text-to-speech.

The 780 is just the 760 with MSN. The 760 came with FM Traffic receiver. I have a 760 and bought the MSN.

It is really cheaper now to buy the 760 then purchase the MSN than it is to buy a 780

Except that the 780 is on

Except that the 780 is on sale at costco on line for only $249.

That is true. Wow. Costco

That is true. Wow. Costco must have gotten a great deal on them. The 760/780 is a great little unit.

this weekend, according to

this weekend, according to costco website, the sale is over for the 780. I'll bet if they have a lot of them left that it really isn't over. But for the price of 249 it sure makes you think about buying map updates and how the value of that is diminishing.

I checked the Costco Web Site

And it still shows the Nuvi 780 on sale through April 5th, 2009, while supplies last for $249.99 plus shipping of $7.99.

This was at their main web site below....
