And/or what kind of GPS are you using?
If you don't mention that in your post, you should at least have it in your profile.

Files ending in .POI on Magellan models are proprietary in nature and usually cannot be edited without buying software that is very costly.

I suspect that is true of all .POI files from other manufacturers too.

How to edit .poi extension

Try loading your file into a word processor, it might just be a text file or it may already be a csv file. If so just rename it with the csv extension. You can then use GPS Utility to convert the file to several different formats, including .ov2. The only limit to GPS Utility is, unless you buy it, it's limited to 100 entries at a time. You can get GPS Utility at:

You can't edit a .poi file so easy

You can't edit a .poi file with word processor or excel. That would be too easy, and I'm not sure the manufacturers would like us to do that. Magellan charges tens of $$ extra for models with more POI.

POI file

He didn't say where he got the file and I'm not that familiar with Magellan, I didn't know they used a POI extension. I thought someone might have renamed a text file.

The poi file are extracted

The poi file are extracted from a TOMTOM poi.dat...I would like to convert that into .ov2...Do you think that would be possible?

I don't think so

Magellan has their factory installed POI's as .poi file already, so there was no need for me to extract it. I tried to open the file with all programs I have available on my PC(including MS Access, Excell, POI Editor) but with no success. My feeling is that what you want is beyond regular user capability.
