Great project idea...where do I start?

I have a great idea for a set of POI's that I'd like to see developed and I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but the problem is, I don't know where to begin with something like this.
What I'd like accomplish is a set of POI's for all of the CU$ (aka, Credit Union Alliance) surcharge free ATM's. In the list I'd like to include the address (of course), location, provider, and type (withdrawal-only, deposit, etc.). As I've never done this before, how could I go about compiling this list into something my Garmin (or any other GPS) can utilize? And do you have any tips to provide a first time POI'er?

Thanks Motorcycle Mama! Those links have been a pretty good guide so far. I've got a first draft loaded onto my StreetPilot c550 and now I just have to work out a few details before I post it here for everyone.

Not quite ready for publication yet;) As I looked at your file I found quite a few that were not geocoded. You have to go back over these and geocode them individually.
Take a look at lines 361 - 382 and 844 - 869.
When you have it finished send it to me at Maryann@poifactory.com and I will post it to the page you have already made for it.

OK, went through and hit all the ones that were missed and while I was at it scrubbed approximately 30 duplicates from the list. File e-mailed as requested.
