Lots of new content. Red light cam database is $29.99, thankfully we have POI Factory.
The addition of 2.8 million POI's to their skimpy database for $29.99 is also sure to rile some.

And that $29.99 is for only a year. Now we know why Navigon didn't include any software like Garmin's free Custom POI Loader support.

I hope this doesn't become a trend with GPS manufacturers charging yearly for extra POI's that should be standard.
Leading The way
Navigon was the 1st to have advertiser sponsered free traffic and we see how that is catching on, these guys and their trends may wreck GPS.
Navigon Traffic
Navigon was the 1st to have advertiser sponsered free traffic and we see how that is catching on, these guys and their trends may wreck GPS.
I didn't think Navigon traffic had ads as of yet. Can anyone confirm this?

Confirming this untrue
NAVIGON does not use adds for traffic they supply it for free. period.

If you want to go that route you can,
but because NAVIGON is open architecture
third party software can be run along
with the navigation software.
What you guys are doing is comparing
this unit to a Garmin where you get what
they give you no more no less. With NAVIGON
products you can make changes by tweaking
the software it's self if you like.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20243
you will see that, with POI-Warner this
third party software which I have been
using for a few years works so well, it
puts all other GPSr's to shame.
NAVIGON is already the leader in features
that all others are copying at a dizzying
rate. Now that NAVIGON has worked though
the problems of MN6 and released MN7 users
will find the NAVIGON products Faster and
more accurate than ever.
And if you feel Ala Carte is the way you want
to go, then you also have that option, don't
other GPSr users wish they also had that option,
instead of the company releasing a new unit every
other week and making two obsolete?

Navigon
We know you're a Navigon fan, and hate Garmins which is fine.
Do Garmins have problems...yes. Can Garmins be improved...yes. Are some of Garmins business practices questionable....yes.
If you look at user reviews on Amazon, etc., site reviews at Consumer Reports, etc., Navigons simply don't generally rate that well.
The newest Garmin practice is giving free traffic updates by including ads. I can't really say how intrusive that is, because I haven't even been to a traffic coverage area yet.
Navigon has been including free traffic for awhile on some of their units. They sell units fairly cheap and now seem to be selling additional services to make up for it.
It's nice to have those options but they can add considerable cost and that's what Navigon is banking on. $40 for 600 3D buildings is expensive, $30 for a couple million added POI's is expensive, $50 for Canada and Alaska is Expensive.
$130 for European maps and $30/year for red light cams may not be that bad, but still add a lot to the cost.
Navigon was listed in one article as a company they think will be out of business by the end of this year. I hope not. I want Navigon and other companies to succeed. We need competition in the market. Like you said Navigon has brought out some innovative features. But it also seems they are hurting and trying to recoup costs by offering features that are free or not offered by other makes.
It is obvious you have an extreme bias for Navigon.
When I first went looking for red-light camera poi's
I visited several sites all of which charged for the poi. So Navigon charging doesn't surprise me.. I joined poi factory (much to my delight) and paid $20 for a year (Although I could have opted for a lesser amount)... and I have received the red light poi and more in value from this site.. So it would appear their charge is about $10 above the cost of joining this great site for a year.
As for Bob Dee being biased, how can you say such a thing
, he just has strong opinions.. Right BD?
Edit: BTW doesn't Garmin also charge for redlight coverage in the U.S.A.?

Redlight Coverage
Edit: BTW doesn't Garmin also charge for redlight coverage in the U.S.A.?
I don't believe that Garmin has their own red light coverage in the USA yet. They do have it in Europe and of course charge a pretty penny for it.
I have a 270

Which includes the europe map and European red light coverage came with it (Cyclops)... I don't know how accurate they are and I'll probably never find out... Hmmm Ill have to check my 770...

Huh?

What? Hate? Have you ever looked at my signature? I own at a minimum of 4 garmins at the moment, along with several others.
I just have the ability to tell it like it is, whether you or anyone else likes it or not.
So please don't assume like you usually do!
Your overview of NNAVIGON is total crap, and you even go as far as saying they going out of business is nonsense. But you said that before if I remember.
It is obvious you have an extreme bias for Garmin!
When I smoked, I bought the brand that gave me the best deal. So I am not brand loyal, thats all.
So tell me something, you don't think Garmin could learn from Ala carte Downloads? I DO!
Let be realistic now, NAVIGON developed fresh maps along with NAVTEQ,and what do you know now Garmin has NuMaps I call that Ala carte. You will see more and more of NAVIGON's innovations making there way to other GPSr as time goes by. As NAVIGON and NAVTEQ work together and developed such things as Lane assist,3D view,Highway Speed limits we get them for Garmin as well.
Actually if I was to be patial to a GPSr it would be my Delorme, just can't carry a laptop with me, but talk about great features.
I talk from experience you cut and paste from what other write and you can't even be sure if it's accurate information.
lets just agree to disagree.
I just don't like the screwing I have gotten from Garmin over the years of dealing with them. And I speak out of the fact.

re: BobDee
Sure we can agree to disagree as we've discussed before.
I'm not a big Garmin fanboy. My next GPS will probably be a different brand, and could very well be a Navigon if their new models keep improving (8100T excluded...they seem to have taken a step backwards with that model).
I agree and I stated that Navigon has come out with some new features that have been copied by the industry. However I'm hoping charging extra for every little feature like 3D buildings, etc. doesn't become a trend in the industry.
The article stating that they don't think Navigon will be around next year were predictions by one of the GPS sites and I don't know if it should be taken seriously. I stated that I hope Navigon sticks around.
I like deLorme also. They seem to be kind of the underdog, they're a small Maine (where I used to live) company, and their new handheld PNS-40 is getting good reviews.
You talk about the screwing over you've got from Garmin. Something bad must have really happened to make you speak out against them so much. I'm wondering if you can clue me in on what happened?
Garmin Europe Red Light Coverage

Ok, sorry, but now I'm getting confused. I was under the impression that Garmin didn't include red light and speed cam coverage on their European maps and you had to pay extra for it?
