No directional turn on map screen: Nuvi 760

Unlike the Nuvi 265W with the new map screen which shows a left or right turn ahead, the old map screen of the older Nuvi 760 doesn't show directional turn. How then does one know whether to keep left or right in order to execute the proper next turn without touching the screen to find out?

I am asking because I haven't had the occasion to try out an older model Nuvi ending with "0" which has the older map screen.

Green Bar usually tells you

The green bar at the top will usually tell you the name of the next street and whether it's right or left. For more information, you have to tap the next turn function. Not as cool as the arrow indicator, but that's what it has.

Thanks johnc

Thank you johnc! I like the new map screen where it shows your vehicle's current speed (which is more accurate than the speedometer) which saves you from looking down at your speedometer on a regular basis.

The old map screen doesn't appear to show your car's present speed when you're driving to a calculated destination.

The voice prompts always tell you whether you'll be turning left or right for your next maneuver. It's always "turn right in x-(feet or fractions of miles)" or "take exit then bear left". With TTS prompts there's little reason to ever look at the screen.

Cheers wink

I never had a problem of looking at my speedometer. And instead of looking down at speedometer, your still looking at gps.

And while accurate, i would be skeptical about the acuracy during certain conditions, weather, mountains, tunnels, satalite fix. I dont think many people have major problems with accuracy of a speedometer.

If you want to use it as a replacement, be my guest, make sure to put it in front of your face so you dont have to look down, or over for your speed.

I also tried once SUCCESSFULLY driving while looking only at nuvi, not through windshield. I was able to park my car in my driveway this way, 6 feet accuracy with external antena

This is the reason I went with the 255.

I like the idea of knowing if you are to go left or right way before the GPS tells you to. It has been helpful to me on my Mio knowing that I need to bear left/right on a highway that will split.

A friend of mine has the older 700 series GPS and he seems not to have any problems without this feature ... I guess its what you get use to or need.

All I have to do is glance

All I have to do is glance at the green bar... it tells me left or right some 10 miles before the turn, even on slow city streets. If that isn't early enough then.... rolleyes

On the Garmin website, the image of the 760, 770 & 780 don't show any direction on its green bar. Of course the 770 shows the final destination within view and the 760, 780 are less than 10 miles away to the next turn.

Am I missing something?

No, you're not. Hence my statement that it "usually" tells you right or left on the green bar. But not 100% of the time. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's with the really long road names like the example. Or maybe there is only one way to go when you get there so right/left is not needed. I like the arrow better myself, but the green bar and next turn screen is what we have and it works pretty well.

Here's an example.........

Buy a new GPS?

Some people need an excuse to buy a more modern unit - I think you have just "invented" a new one!

wink

It does show the direction

If you zoom out, you will see a white arrow at the turn. At least my 750 does.

It's easier

It's easier just to hit the "Next Turn" button.
