Nuvi 680

Any way to have the units beep when you exceed local speed limits by a certain amount. Local speed limits must be in the unit if it calculates arrival times?

Not with the Garmin, there

Not with the Garmin, there are units where you can set the speed limit and if you go above it, it will alert. There are units that have PSL, but I don't think (could be wrong) that they alert you.

Not On Your Device

There's another (fairly lengthy) thread on this subject in the Garmin folder. Unfortunately Garmin doesn't offer overspeed warnings. Other manufacturers like Navigon do however. Here's one example: http://www.amazon.com/Navigon-4-3-Inch-Widescreen-Portable-N...

I have a tiny little Navigon that offers the same speed warning and lane assist features of its big brother so guess it's common to the brand.

On the other hand your 680 may offer features Navigon and others don't. The only way to buy a GPS these days is to make a list of 'must have' items then compare the brands and models side by side until you find one with most of the items on your list.

Cheers wink

Speed alerts

Of course, but not automatically. You have to define POI's that contain the locations and speed limits of "speed traps." You can also download POI's from the factory that contain locations of speed and red light cameras. Check out the many threads that are here in the factory that deal with "speed."
I have an older Garmin C530 and have it set up so that when I approach areas that I know cops like to monitor, a red alert bar appears at the top of the display and a tone sounds. If my speed exceeds the speed that I set up in the POI, the tone becomes kind of an annoying, intermittent bonging. When I drop my speed to under the defined speed, the red alert bar remains but the bonging stops.
There's all kinds of information about setting up that environment here in the factory.

My Navigon Does indeed have this feature and is very nice, it works off the posted speed limit of the road. you have two options Urban and country and you set how many MPH you want to be over the posted speed before you get the warning.

Very cool...

I hope Garmin includes this in an upcoming model.

Speed alert

I put a suggestion in to Garmin for the speed alert and also for the time to show on the main screen. It would help if other members could do the same then maybe we can get the features we want.

Time

Having time on the main screen would be awesome!
