HOW DO YOU LISTEN YOUR NUVI???

smile Hello:

After browsing many reviews for the Nuvi 760 I’m surprised that still a lot of people listening thru regular FM radio and the regular Nuvi speakers for navigation & Bluetooth.

I listen to my Nuvy connected to my car stereo via the auxiliary output so I can listen to my mp3 player music from my sd card and @ the same time I get instructions from my gps and connected to my phone for hands free calling, the result is a way better and cleaner sound and @ the same time I can listen only my personal music, if I decide that I like to listen to radio I just change to FM or AM radio (rarely).

This is just for information to let you know that you can use the speakers of your stereo for listening with a better sound….now tell me how do you listen your Nuvi??? smile

Listen To Nuvi

Not everyone has an aux input in their car stereo. Fortunately my FM transmitter seems to work pretty well in my vehicle.

I fortunately still have a cassete tape playing in my pickup, so I use a cd adapter. The cassete with a cord, it works great. I wish I had a audio in jack in my pikcup.

Through the Aux jack

I tried the cassette tape adapter, it didn't work. It was not because of the adapter, but rather the cassette player produced a constant clicking noise. I had no resolution to it.
Then my truck's radio started having statics. It changed channels at will and without consultation with the driver or the owner of the truck. This is especially so after hitting a bump or a pot hole. So I dropped a few hints to my wife who was kind enough to replace the radio with one that has an aux jack as an anniversary gift to me. Now I plugged my NUVI 660 into the jack.

I recently installed an auxiliary converter.

I mounted my Nuvi in my Accord's storage bin as I rarely look at the screen and rely on hearing the instructions from the car's speakers.

I found this diagram helpful in illustrating how auxiliary converters work.

Cassette Adapter

Through a Sony cassette adapter (no aux jack) and I listen to mp3's on my SD card most of the time.

Built-In Speaker

I use the built-in speaker to listen to my Nuvi 660. For music, I usually either listen to the radio or my 30GB Zune. I have an auxiliary input in my car, and it is usually hooked up to my Belkin TuneBase (http://tinyurl.com/9qlc5n), which has an aux. output and charges my Zune.

I

I have an Ipod with over 1300 songs plugged in to my radio the nuvi can not hold that many songs so I listen thru the built in speakers

I use the auxiliary output to my stereo jack,FM modulator works poorly in my vehicle.

I use the AUX jack on my stereo

Use the Nuvi 760 in my Honda Civic Hybrid which has a built in jack. I agree that the sound is excellent.

HOW DO YOU LISTEN YOUR NUVI???

Well because I think of myself as somewhat of a pirate I tend to listen to my Nuvi with my "BUCCANEERS"

I am using FM Transmitter in my car and works very well most of the time. Sometimes I get disturbance but it is acceptable. WHen I want to listen radio I switch to AM. I listen music via my Nuvi 760 SD card as well. So far very happy with the performace of FM transmitter.

It's a long long way.....

Ok, this will be the ultimate in 'geek' setups but it really works great.

My Nuvi output along with audio out from an Escort 8500 Radar Detector and Omnifi DMP1 (mp3 player that uses a laptop hard drive with massive storage) flow into a Mixit2 multi channel amplifier ( http://www.mixitproducts.com/mixit2.html) and from there to a Toy1 audio module that adapts the RCA audio out from the Mixit to the Satellite 'in' plug on the back of my car radio.

The result: I can listen to music through the car stereo which is automatically muted anytime I receive an alert from the Nuvi. Sound quality is excellent for the Omnifi, sometimes a little fuzzy (like it's overmodulated for the normal direction voice but, curiously, always clear for the custom POI voices) from the GPS. The radar detector just goes "bleep" or "blat". I have a remote microphone plugged into the Nuvi cradle. When I'm on the phone the Nuvi takes over audio on the Mixit and all other audio is muted.

Oh yeh, I've installed another audio plug in the center console so passengers can also plug in a portable MP3 player or other audio. That also runs through the Mixit amp.

Cheers wink

built-in speaker

I listen to my music with the 6-disk mp3 player in my car radio, which aux jack disables. I have tried running the nuvi through the aux jack, which does give a better voice quality, but not as good music quality.

Bleh........

Due to the length of my commute I had to switch to using my wife's old Buick Century. No aux input. No CD changer input on the back. I used the cassette adapter for a while but now the stupid unit spits out the adapter (and any other cassette as well) so that's out. I'd replace the stereo with a new unit that has an aux input but, since the car has steering wheel mounted controls for the radio, CD, etc. it would cost far more than it's worth. My wife is NOT interested in replacing the stereo with one that won't work with those controls. I could get a new unit for $100 or so that would make me very happy but, with the adapter kit and the install I was told it would be around $500 to actually get it all done. No way is this crappy old car worth that.

Sooooooooo.......... I listen to the nüvi through the tinny built-in speaker. Sigh........ I love audible books and they definitely do NOT sound good using that speaker. I loved listening to them (and to mp3 music) from my nüvi when I could use the car stereo but now it's just not real good at all. The FM transmitter doesn't work well in this area at all.

You may want to check out this adapter. It plugs into the radio antenna. BobDee posted the link previously in a different thread http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=266818...

No AUX jack

but I do have a cassette deck and cassette adapter that I use in my '02 Honda CR-V...works great on long trips with the 8GB SD card full of mp3's...music, podcasts, old time radio shows, archived CoastToCoastAM radio programs, whatever I happen to be in the mood for...I create playlists with winamp to give me more control, and the shuffle playback feature on the nuvi's mp3 player.

for my regular use around town, including my 20 minute morning commute, I prefer to catch Mike and Mike on ESPN radio, so I use the internal speaker.

I've considered a number of options but, when it comes to connecting to the antenna lead, you have to pretty much dismantle the freaking dash in order to get to the back of the radio. I've checked out online instructions for removing the radio from this car and that seems to be what it takes. Sigh...

Yep, she is good to me.

She has bought me 3 GPS so far. One to replace a stolen one, one to replace the one "borrowed" by our college kid. I appreciate her kindness.grin grin grin

some advantages to living in the back of beyond

The 750 provides a good signal to my Toyota's FM radio. Luckily I seldom have to change the broadcast frequency.

My next car radio will have an auxillary feed though
as FM stations keep expanding across the "dial."

Junkyard Radio?

Thrak,

Just a guess, your local auto wrecking yards would be fertile ground for a replacement unit identical to the one you're having problems with. You can practice removing the radio from the junkyard car and have the procedure down pat for the R&R in your own car. $25 and an hour of your time and you're good to go again.

Cheers wink

When we're in the 05 Honda

When we're in the 05 Honda Odyssey, I've got an Aux In adapter installed in the CD changer jack on the OEM headunit. When I'm in my car, NUVI is on builtin speaker. Soon, I hope to replace the headunit in my car with one that has aux in. I especially like using the bluetooth through the car stereo in the van.
