Mapsource to create route for 750

New to the site, first post so go gentle on me. Just got my new Garmin 750. I've been reading FAQ's and already learned a lot. I have a older Garmin 76S that I purchased Mapsource for. Can I make a route in this older version of Mapsource (V 4.13), then load on the 750. Couldn't find it in FAQ. I created a route on the 750 itself and think I found a XML file that is that route. So do I have to take my Mapsource routes and convert them to XML, is there a tool for that?

Thanks in advance.

Here are a couple of things ...

1. You should update you MapSource version to version 6.13.7.
http://www8.garmin.com/software/MapSource_6137.exe

2. What maps (MetroGuide?, City Select?) do you have loaded in that MapSource version? Note that MapSource is the program shell and can be updated independent of the map data which is separate.

3. You will be able to create routes for your 750 if those maps contain auto-routing information. No all of them do. However, since the maps (I'm guessing) are different from the maps in your nuvi, you will likely experience routing differences between the two.

4. I would recommend that you call Garmin and ask them to send you the City Navigator maps on disk. They will likely send it to you at no charge (or for a small shipping charge) since you already have the City Navigator maps preloaded in your nuvi. Just tell them that you have a 750 and that you want to use the software to create routes on your computer and send them to the nuvi.

Note also that (at least in the new MapSource versions) the files are saved (by default) in Garmin's GDB format on the computer. When they are sent to the GPX unit, they are saved as GPX files which is a special type of XML file.

If you created a route on the nuvi, you should be able to send it to MapSource (after you update the program shell with the link above) directly from the unit using the "Send to Device" button in the program.

Thanks for the detailed

Thanks for the detailed response. Will try some of those things when I get home. This is my first road type GPS unit. Very familiar with the one I use in my boat.

Thank you

Finally had a chance to try what Motorcycle Mama suggested....works great. Thank you. Have a ton of routes and waypoints that I now won't need to re-do.
