POI File Verifier

I have the c340 model. Attempted to try the POI Verifier but was not helpful for me as the longitude and latitude were in reverse order when addresses were decoded. Is this technician created program only for the Nuvi 300/350 specifically?

POI verifier works fine for me. I have the c530. The file format for your unit, the NUVI, and mine are all the same. Don't understand what you mean by the longitude and latitude being reversed. Longitude first, then Latitude in decimal format. For the US, the longitude values should all be negative. Did you try it on an existing file from this site?
When you decode using gps visualizer or another outside source, you may have to rearrange the columns of data to match the required structure. This is quite easy to do using Excel.

POI Verifier

Thankyou for responding Mkahn. You are correct that the longitude values should be negative for the U.S. and then the latitude values should be shown in next cell of excel spreadsheet as its longitude/latitude. What is happening to me is that when I tried the POI Verifier, the info appears with latitude in cell A and longitude in cell B of excel rather than the other way around so if I am missing something here, any help to make creating my POI's for where I am located (Florida) is greatly appreciated. Same thing also happens when I use Geocoder so maybe it's me and not the program.

Lon then Lat

faq & help at top of page, then look for csv file format.
Excellent info. But, basically, the csv file has 3 fields and an optional 4th for comments. Since you use excel, you just enter the data into cells and "save as" make sure you select csv as file type. Leave the quotations out, excel will take care of that for you.

a=lon b=lat c=name d=comment

I'm not quite sure I understand your problem. POI Verifier just verifies that a file was created properly and makes specific corrections. You should start in Excel, put the information in the appropriate columns, and save as a .csv file. Running POI Verifier will confirm or correct the file. When you open the file again in Excel, the location of the data should not have changed.

POI File Verifier shouldn't change the Longitude and Latitude figures. If it finds one out of the parameters designated by the 'area' box you check, it will only notifiy you of the line the error is in.

It would really be helpful if you could post the first two lines of the POI file you're working with, both before and after running POI File Verifier. Open it with Notepad and post the data including all quotations and line breaks.

I would also like to know the info displayed while running it.

Thanks.

POI File Verifier

I would like to thank you all for assisting me. This is what I have done. I started in Excel and loaded my info line by line. I then saved in csv format. I guess I was trying to find a simpler way of loading the info into excel rather than manually inputting line by line entry. I entered my POI info into geocoder and the returns show latitude first and then longitude and I was hoping there was a way to have it populate as longitude and then latitude so I could copy and paste directly..I know, I know..laziness on my part..lol

Anyway...I understand the process now and ran the created file through retiredtech program. Thankyou again and apologies for any confusion.

You can still do it that way

You can still do it that way with geocoder and then just move the columns in Excel.
.
