I have three GPSr's to buy as gifts, waiting till the day of Christmas Eve, then I will go to a City that has all the tech stores and warehouse stores for shopping in a 1 square mile and then get the absolute best deal. I ony wish I could wait till after Christmas to shop, then for sure it would be the best deal.

Watching the rain and fog

In this place, it started out foggy and gradually became an all-out downpour. In the middle of it, the house is too quiet, so I look for hubby. Out in the front yard I see him with the pickax (southern for adz I'm told), and he is digging out a fire ant bed. How demented is that!

So I holler for him to come in out of the rain (he is after all a YANKEE) before he catches pneumonia. He also hauled home about 20 big black trash bags of leaves from the neighbor's house, which he will shred to build his winter garden. It isn't cold here, just wet and uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, back at the house we left in Massachusetts, the power lines are down from trees falling due to the ice load. Maybe later this week the friends who are staying there can return. What a general mess this storm made of New England, in a rather spotted fashion.

I remember Christmas Eve 1989. We had snow - on the ground - in Sarasota. They were skiing in Tampa.

High 70's in San Antonio yesterday, but never got above 45 today. A 40-50 degree temp difference between adjacent days, even between night and day, is not unusual here. But, not complaining. It's still better than most of the country.

I still don't think you can marry Christmas, it's probably spoken for.

So to you and yours, have a Merry Christmas! & a Happy new Year.

The shopping is pretty much done. We might still see something that we'll pick up, but the main portion is done. Before kids, we were always done by Thanksgiving, however, that has somehow changed to anytime between then and Christmas. This year, we're done a few weeks before.

As for our cards, we make them every year (well, this is about the 10th year) and they went out over the weekend. We have a picture of the kids, or a montage of them in various activities throuhout the year on the cover. On the inside, the first flap will have a chart of them with a dozen and a half variou stat's, which can vary from year to year. This year, it inlcudes things such as their nicknames, school grade, favorite color, favorite song, movie, food, favorite vacation, greatest accomplishment, activities, and several other items. The answers come from them, which can make it interesting. The other inside flap will have our greeting for the year - usually something in verse that we (usually my wife) have written, and finally, our signatures.

The food is all accounted for, with the cheese cakes being picked up last night - they're a new addition this year being a school fundraiser. surprised

Christmas Trees

We went out last night to find a tree. I knew that being in Hollywood, Florida for Christmas that the trees would be more than up in the Boston area. At a road side lot they were selling trees starting at $65.00 to $95.00. They were about 5 to 6 feet tall.
Nice but not worth the money. Today we are going to Home Depot and Publix to see if we can get a less costly tree. Have the trees gone up from last year in your home town? I think I paid $45.00 last year for a 5' tree in Boston.

A bit of an increase in "fresh-cut" tree prices

Here in Chicago, prices for "fresh-cut" trees at the big-box stores have gone up @ $4-$5. We always get a 6'-7' Fraser fir. We paid about @ $32 last year; this year same size Fraser Fir goes for @ $36.xx.

We stay away from the corner tree lots since their pricing is best summarized by a seller's answer when I asked how much the trees were: "How much do you have?".

Unbelievable

Although it was for a camera, not a GPSr, I bought an SD 2G card for less than $7.

It made me think of the "old days:" My first PC at work had a 20 MB hard drive, and my first home PC needed more RAM to run Windows 95. So I rushed out to a computer super store to buy it because the price had DROPPED to a new low. I bought 8MB of RAM for $160.

YIKES!
