BlueTooth Question

Have Nuvi 760 with Bluetooth. I can pair my HTC Touch (Sprint), no problems. It uploads all contact info and notifies me who's calling and many more features, but I have a Bluetooth head set which I prefer to use for several reasons. The problem is that when the 760 is paired to my phone I can not use my headset even though it is paired with my phone. Wondering if anyone else has encounter this problem or has a work-around.

I know that you can not pair a headset to the 760, hopefully that this will soon be an upgrade.

Or...

how to quickly disconnect the GPS to be able to use the handheld?

Just diable the GPS bluetooth

If you prefer the headset, why bother with the GPS?

One Device

Most cell phones can only be paired to one bluetooth device at a time. So you cannot pair the cell phone with both the GPS and headset at the same time.

One Device

To refine that a bit, you can't pair two BT devices to a phone with the same Service. i.e. the Headset Service or Audio. One will override the other.

If your BT devices are different services, then they will pair.

I can pair my Blackberry with a Headset, GPS puck, and Network device and all work.

One service.

phranc is correct. Seems that both the GPS and the headset are using the handsfree Bluetooth profile.

You might want to try downloading a Bluetooth audio gateway management program, that allos you to redirect the audio to the headset profile instead, in order to keep using the GPS display, but hear sound through the headset.

Check http://bansky.net/blog/2008/09/redirecting-audio-to-bluetoot... for examples.

Hope this helps,

so have i

but are they CONNECTED?

I've paired an older phone to two headsets and a computer also.

I've paired a new phone to a nuvi and another phone.

But you can't be ACTIVELY connected to more than one at the same time.

so yes, they're both slightly "wrong" using the term "paired" when they mean "connected"... since you can pair up lots of stuff, but not be connected to all of them at the same time.

No-Joy

Tried the gateway but nojoy. I think I'll have to hope that Garmin updates the Bluetooth software to pair a headset to it. Thanks for the help.

Pairing Headset

I don't see anyway to pair the headset to the GPS unit. There is no way on the headset to enter the pin code to accept the pairing that the GPS requires.

The only devices that Garmin

The only devices that Garmin has that allow connection to a headset and phone at the same time are devices designed for motorcycle use like the zumo and StreetPilot 2820.

Headset

My 765T lists a stereo headset for listing only as an option under bluetooth but it is not for communicating.

I was wanting to be able to use the handheld once the call was connected. my bluetooth headset has that option with a long press while using to transfer the communication to the handset but I cannot find how to do it from either the handset or the GPS unit.

Just disconnect the device

If you got a head set, go to the bluetooth menu on the GPS and disconnect bluetooth the device (your cell phone). Make sure the Headset is connected and thats it.

There is no point to this

The GPS unit *is* a headset. What would be the point of pairing two headsets to each other? This is not supported by the Bluetooth spec.

I suppose what you might want to do is have the Nuvi display the caller info and phone book, but use the headset for the actual audio. This won't be possible because the Nuvi identifies itself as a headset or hands free device, same as your headset. Only one handsfree device can be active with your phone at a time. It's not a fault of the Nuvi. It's just the way that Bluetooth works.

Uh Huh

Yes, I know that. I was responding to an earlier poster that said he wanted to pair the Headset to the GPS.

I was responding to "bilson's" post where he said:

With my 2820, if you want to use a headset, you have to pair the headset and the phone to the GPS

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

.

Yeah, the Zumo has this functionality as well. But from all the descriptions, the nuvi doesn't seem to have separate handset and headset pairings.

265wt bluetooth

I haven't tried this but I am wondering...

I bought a 265wt and I would like to pair my phone with it since my SUV i drive to work doesn't have that capability and I don't want to wear a ear piece.

Now my wife's car already has bluetooth and my phone paired to it. What would happen if I were in my wife's car with the nuvi 265wt paired to my phone and the car if a call came in? Can the phone be paired with more than one device simultaneously?

Bluetooth allows for a headset to be paired with two phones

Bluetooth allows for a headset to be paired with two phones at the same time and to switch back and forth between the phones but it will not allow a phone to be paired to more than one headset at a time.

This is a quote from my Plantronics 520 Headset owners manual about how to use that feature:

"Mult ipoint (Using more than
one Bluetooth device)
Plantronics Voyager 520 supports multipoint technology which enables
you to use one headset between two different mobile phones.
Pair another Bluetooth device
Repeat the pairing steps with the new device. See “Subsequent Pairing”
on page 7 for instructions.
Initiate a call
The headset initiates a call on the device you most recently used. To use
the second phone, initiate the call using the controls on the second phone.
The second phone forms a link with the headset.
Answer a call
An incoming call from either phone rings through to your headset.
• To answer a call, press the call control button.
Answer a call while talking on the other device
To answer the second call, the first call must be terminated. There is no
function for placing one call on hold while answering another call from
the headset.
• Press the call control button once to hang up the existing call, and then press
the call control button again to answer the new call from the other phone.
• Wait for the beep and then answer the second call by pressing the call control
button again.
• Some devices may require an additional button press to support this function
and/or an additional press to reestablish the Bluetooth link after terminating the
second call.
If you choose not to answer the second call, and you have voice mail on
the second device, the call will go to voice mail.
Note: Multipoint technology may not be supported by some devices or
phone manufacturers."
