Garmin nüvi 710 USB Charger

Dose anybody know why I can't use my Garmin while charging it using USB cable?

Thanks

.

Because the units are designed to go into USB Mass Storage Mode when they are connected to a computer via the USB cable.

Some detail on your problem

If you have a look through my post and the replies at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/10701 you might pick up some of the technical behind what is going on with your Nuvi on a standard USB.

Personally still can not understand why they do not include an option to make it switchable between navigate and computer connect when on USB and just let the charge happen!

You Can (Well, You Can With The US Models)

Here's the way to do it with the US models. This should work with your model also.

1. Connect Garmin to computer with USB cable. Garmin will go into mass storage mode and will appear as a connected device on your computer.

2. Slide the power switch on the Garmin to the locked position.

3. On your computer click on the icon/menu to safely remove hardware. Wait for the message that it is now safe to remove the hardware, BUT DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR GARMIN FROM THE COMPUTER.

4. The Garmin will reboot and the normal opening screen will appear. You can now slide the power switch to the center position and use your Garmin as normal. If you slide the power switch to the left (off position), the Garmin will go into charge mode.

just found this post

thanks for this info. I have been able to get my nuvi do to this but I had no idea how I did it. Your way worked the 1st time I tried it. Thanks!
