Guide for Loading POI to GPS

I've talked to a few GPS owners about downloading POIs from this site and usually get the same reaction. They don't realize this is possible, don't know how to do it, think it is too complicated, etc. I'm wondering if we can make it easier for owners of any brand GPS to use POIs from this site.

www.poi-factory.com/node/1631 is an excellent start but only covers Garmin, Magellan, and Mio. Here are my suggestions.

1. Expand above guide to cover other brands such as TomTom, Navigon, etc.

2. Include a link to this comprehensive guide in every POI web listing so that new users can easily find it. Experienced users shouldn't mind a single, one line link.

3. Enhance existing Garmin guide to include screen shots of POI Loader. (The MIO link to http://hugginsnet.com/ilovemymio/index.php?topic=7.0 has nice screen shots.) The Garmin guide is nice in that it lists where to get POI Loader, near step-by-step instructions, etc.

Let the discussion begin...

I find

the Garmin routine is really fairly straightforward.

Would screen shots help the overall learning experience? Probably.

There really isn't that much to it, IMO. I know about Garmin, but not the other brands.

Great Idea

This would be great ,,when I was looking how to down load and ask a ? you get alot of ideas that are not on target to the question ,, so this for me made the learning curve very large since I am not computor literate. It's great theres all this knowledge but some of these people have to realize some of us still don't understand,, so if poi factory could do something like poi loading for the dummies like me then thats great. Pictures work good too.

As a start...

I've started adding the following paragraph to all my POI pages where "xxxxx" is the name of the POI file.

www.poi-factory.com/node/1631 - good link for new users on how to load POI files into GPS unit. Once loaded into the GPS unit, Garmin users can select "Where To?", "Extras", "Custom POIs", and finally "xxxxx".
