Adding new POI's

I'm very new at this and have a couple of questions. First, I saw a topic on another forum stating that you have to add all the POI's at once because it deletes the database and just installs what you are installing at that time. Is this correct? Did my database that Garmin pre-installed on my gps was overwritten?
I know I was in a mall area today and could not find Best Buy or Circuit City (even though I was within 1 mile of each) and they have been there for years. I looked by POI category as well as spelling and it told me there was no such listing. If it is true it was overwritten then how do I get it back? Do I just reset it to factory default?
My next questions is how do I add custom POI's. I mean if I personally want to add some new store or whatever and install it on my gps? Such as there is a brand new Walmart being built that will open this Spring. I want to add it to my POI's with address and phone number as well. How is that done?
Thanks for your help.
Uploader
I think the best way to add custom Poi's is by using the Garmin uploader.
POI Problem
You only overwrite your custom pois when you load them on to your 760. The original pois loaded at the factory are still there. Read the getting started forum or refer to http://www.poi-factory.com/node/85. This will answer all of your questions.
Your custom POIs when
Your custom POIs when brought over by the POI loader will wipe out the custom POIs on the 760. All the individual POI files, which you should have in a single folder on your hard drive, will be stitched together by the POI Loader program, available from Garmin. The original POIs within the 760 should not be touched. Thus you should be able to have POIs for Best Buy on the original database, and an additional file that you could add to your custom POIs from the POI Factory library that would be more up to date. Thus you could get a second opinion!!!

Or you can use the renaming method
Or you can use the renaming method and overwrite nothing.

POIs on 2nd drive/Sd card
I think the best way to add custom Poi's is by using the Garmin uploader.
I have a Garmin nuvi 250 and am starting to look at installing POIs. However, I would like to store them on the micro-SD card rather than on the main internal flash memory. Is there an alternative way to easily put POIs on the sd card/second drive? Or can I transfer them to the 2nd drive once installed with the loader? And if put on the second drive, what directory structure do I need to observe so that the nuvi finds the custom POIs properly?
Thanks i advance for any help.
.
POI Loader gives you the option of where you would like to put the Custom POIs. You can select the SD card on this screen in POI Loader.
.
And if put on the second drive, what directory structure do I need to observe so that the nuvi finds the custom POIs properly?
You need not create any structure on the GPSr. POI Loader will place everything in the proper place. You might want to create a structure on the source drive -- your computer. See Motorcycle Mama's explanation at: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8674 .
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
