Nuvi 760 PC Version

Does anyone know what the difference is between all the PCB versions?
I've seen ver 3, 5, and 7.

Well does anyone know?

No responses?

Huh?

Guess I'll be the first to ask, what's a "PCB version?" I'm not familiar with the acronym.

Cheers wink

PCB = Printed Circuit Board

Versions are noted whenever some engineering change is implemented that requires a new circuit board. This can be due to many reasons, the least of which is a change to the components on the board. Changing from one GPS receiver to another may require a different layout of the printed circuits, so a new version is created. Sometimes the type of board - or manufacturer changes (Garmin doesn't fabricated all the parts they send the design out to someone else). Normally the end-user consumer is not concerned with the board revision.

Ah Ha!

Uh, yeh, I knew that....just wanted to see if anyone else did...(is my nose growing?) smile

It's actually nice to know Garmin cares enough to make changes (improvements?) even after a design is in production. You'd think they'd just stamp out one board by the tens of thousands in a model line and have done with it.

They do (or rather their suppliers do). And when the cost of adding all the additional wires and cutting traces on "bad" boards nears the cost of designing a new board, the new version is brought out.

I didn't see the original post on this. PCB V.x

The revisions have a multitude of reasons, the biggest reasons:

* Flaws in the board design.
Option lockouts from one model to another sharing the same board, so a firmware update doesn't update your model also.
* The foil side is the same but the printed component placement side is different.
* Components removed jumpers added or visa versa.

just to mention a few.

Can't Imagine

...any white wired PCB being sold in production. Well at least, not for our customer(s).

I'm suprised with all the confusion........

I'm sure most of you have seen this before. Press and hold the battery icon and then go to the second page of the diagnostics screen.
Mine has PCB Version 5.
I was just wondering if anyone new if there was any known differences between the versions I listed in the original post.

PCB Version

My 765 says version 6.

PCB version

My 760 is version is a rebuild and says version 6 too

V7

Mine shows Version 7, purchased from Amazon.com end of November. Unfortunately I forgot to note the firmware version it shipped with before registering and loading V4.20.

It may or may not be a hardware difference but I've never experienced any issues reported by some with late turn notifications (I always get a warning a mile early at highway speeds and more than enough notice at city speeds) no slow or jerky scrolling of the map either.

Cheers

I got my Solution

I just talked to garmin and The tech sent me to www.gpsinfotmation.net and to the garmin archives and I back dated my firmware to 4.00. Although he did say that they were aware of the problem and the word was that they were going to be coming out with an update possibly within a week. Thanks for all the suggestions

Your posting does not appear to relate to this thread. I'm curious though, did Garmin indicate that an update for the 760 may be out within a week?

hum..
