Alert text is very small on 765T

part of the reason I bought the 765T, was the ability to create custom POI's, especially utilizing the radius alert feature of the TourGuide alert.

after creating a couple, and testing them while driving, I see that the alert text that appears on screen upon arrival at the coordinates is very small and in the map body itself, instead of a red or gray bar appearing where the green bar normally is, and in that same size text, as it was on previous models.

in fact, it is the same size as the very unobtrusive ads that accompany the free lifetime traffic on this model.

while I appreciate the small text for an ad, I am very disappointed in the appearance of the alert text.

anyone know if this will be addressed as a firmware update?

and if the alert text is enlarged, I wonder if it will mean that the ad text will also have to be bigger.

one last thing...unless it is my imagination, the alert appears as a small line of text in the map body in daylight mode, but as a much larger box on top of the map in night mode...can any of you confirm that?

thanks for your time and this terrific site.

Jim

Same for me on my 255W. I

Same for me on my 255W. I would like the alert to be larger. I can't comment on the day/night issue.

Tiny Alert Changed In 7xx Series

With my Nuvi 660 the POI alert changed the normally green banner at the top of the map to red and the text changed to whatever the warning might be. The 700 series seems to have changed to the smaller banner below the green 'street text' that you're referring to.

Bottom line, what you're seeing is normal for your model. Whether that will be changed with a future firmware update might depend on how many users provide feedback asking for it. As an alternative you could always use sound prompts for each of your POI's. Just record an MP3 file describing the POI then save it with exactly the same title (caps and lower case count) as the POI file. That way you won't even have to look at the screen when an alert pops up.

My niggly little issue with the 7xx series is a little different than yours. I've been trying all week to send Garmin a message suggesting on/off toggles be added for touch tones (without having to mute the entire device) and for the breadcrumb feature (same as the old 2610) so the track doesn't necessarily run all the way 'to' a destination and back again. Unfortunately after entering all the necessary info plus the request the feedback site always bails to a nonoperational page. Hey Garmin, your website's broken! There, that oughta do it.

Cheers wink

Use Garmin's direct tech support email address:

techsupp@garmin.com

No forms to fill out, just specify unit/serial number and your problem. They will reply within a day or two. I've used this email address for years now whenever I have an issue as it's much quicker.

In my personal experience, I think the original 3xx/6xx series POI alert display is the most useful and visible as it's large enough to see clearly & read the text along with display box being red, catching your attention, even if the alert sound for some reason does not. The 7x0 series is still good but the 7x5 alert is, as was mentioned, way too small and does not really grab your attention.

Thanks, I'd completely forgotten about that address. With apologies to Jim for the thread hijack I've written to Garmin asking that on/off toggles be considered for the button press sound and breadcrumb features. I received a reply within 24 hours indicating my suggestions had been forwarded to the appropriate department which is encouraging...unless it's that one button 'department of delete department' wink
