.WAV Conversion

Can someone explain how to convert .mp3 files to .wav? I understand this is what I need for a Nuvi 200.

A great freeware program is Audacity. Get your copy at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Audacity will allow you to increase volume, increase the bass and edit many other characteristics of the sound file.

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

Another possibility is Switch

Another possibility is Switch. There is a freeware version and it's very simple to use.

Here's the steps I use to convert to WAV and load in Garmin

Steps to use WAV files in place of MP3 on 260 (260 does not have an MP3 player)

1. Download version 14.0.1 of SOX.EXE from http://sourceforge.net/projects/sox/

2. Place copy of SOX.EXE in C:\Program Files\Garmin folder. POILoader V2.5.2 will tell you SOX.EXE is missing if it encounters a .WAV file without SOX.EXE in the Garmin folder. (This is the default location Garmin used when I installed the software).

3. Use Audacity Portable to convert MP3 to WAV -- Export WAV settings 44100 HZ, 16-bit, MONO

Note: Audacity Portable makes no changes to your system. Please note the WAV settings. You can Google for Audacity Portable or go here: http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/audacity_portable

4. Place WAV file in POI Collection file (use same name for CSV, BMP and WAV files if you're adding a sound to a warning or location). (POI Collection is the folder I use for uploads, you might use something different).

5. Upload to SD card using POILoader.

Hope this helps!
