Problems downlaoding POI file to 260W

We are newbies to the GPS world but not to the computer world. We have downloaded the POI loader and the POI file (state parks) but the file will not transfer to our Garmin. Have now tried for several hours. What are we doing wrong?
Please help!
Thank You

You haven't given us much to go on. What happens when you try?

Nothing gets loaded into the Garmin. It says "you have successfully transferred the file" or something like that, but the parks are not to be found.

Are you looking in the correct place? They should be under Extras/Custom-POIs, not searching through the built-in POIs.

Thank You so much, I found them! Now what happens if I download another POI, will it have a different title under Extras and not be mixed in with the State Parks?

Hi etowner,

Welcome to the poi-factory...

No matter how many files you add, every POI (.csv or .gpx) is a separate file.

Just put all your downloaded poi files in the same folder, along with your associated .bmp files.

Remember the .csv or .gpx files “and” the .bmp associated file must have the same name (prefix), in order to interact with each other.

For example:
State Parks.csv
State Parks.bmp

Just point the POI Loader to that folder and you’re off to the races.

P.S. The POI Loader creates one .gpi file on your GPS, containing all the POI files you upload. Every time you upload a new poi file, that .gpi file is overwritten by the current contents, of your POI folder. In other words, you can’t just add one poi file at a time. If you want to remove a poi file, just remove that file from your POI Folder and run the POI Loader again.

A second load via POI Loader will overwrite the first POI.gpi file. There are a couple techniques, but the most popular is to reload all files every time you run POI Loader. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8674 and scroll down to Motorcycle Moma's explanation.

Some people rename the POI.gpi (e.g. to StateParks.gpi) file every time they generate a file, but it is too cumbersome for me. A more complicated technique allows you to load files individually without renaming the files each time you generate a new POI.gpi file. If you are interested, check out http://www.poi-factory.com/node/17095 and scroll down to ScrugeysGundogs' post. This is really the best of all worlds, but it might be a bit confusing when you are brand new at this.

If you want to try the renaming method of uploading POIs, check out:

and the FAQ:

I prefer this method as it has many advantages, most of which are listed at the above link.

Problems with POI files

I just want to thank everyone who responded and helped us so quickly. We obviously have a bit of learning to do, but now know where to go.
Thanks again from sunny Canada.
