SEPTA - Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority

Anyone working on this project for Philadelphia mass transit? I'm thinking of getting started with the regional lines.

For the address, I'd use the corner of two streets when listed by SEPTA. For the name, I'm thinking "R102-Springfield Road Station SEPTA".

POI Files

Was Considering it.

Was going to tackle it, but if you want to give it a go, have at it. Let me know if you need assistance. When I did the NJ Transit, Metro-North and PATCO stations, I usually plotted the actual station location on the track using Google Earth.

I'll start

Geocamp,

I saw in another post that it will be a few weeks until you get to it so I'll start since you don't mind. I'll start with just street corners (to allow batch geocoding) and as time allows then the station location can be refined.

Let me know...

P.S. I have a SEPTA logo .bmp file if you would like it.

Easy so far

Geocamp,

Sure, I'll take the logo and post it. This might only take a few days or less. Extracted all the station names from a web site form and sorted alphabetically in a spreadsheet. Made a column for each route (R1, R2, etc). There is a clickable map by station name which has the station address which can be copied into the spreadsheet. Only took less than two hours to do the Broad Street Line, Broad Ridge Spur, and Market Frankford Line. Haven't geocoded anything yet.

Step 1 - Done

Got all routes, stations (~285), and station street addresses into a spreadsheet. Need to do some spreadsheet formatting and then the fun begins with getting coordinates. About half of the stations in the suburbs don't have a city listed (just street address) so it will be a challenage to get coordinates.

SEPTA Logo

When you get the POI file uploaded, I'll sent Miss POI the SEPTA logo to attatch to the file page.

As far as determining which town the stations are in, I use GoogleEarth and just follow the rail line to figure out the nearest town. It's also an easy way to error check the geocoding.

Quick Update

Got the R3, R101, and R102 lines geocoded. Several more days at least since many stations have to be hand geocoded.

Icon Per Route

A thought just occurred to me. It would be nice to have an icon associated with the route number so that you can look at the map and easily see the stations for this route. For example, the R5 route would have a different icon than the R2 route. An icon with "R5" would work. Even nicer would be the SEPTA icon as the background with "R5" on top of it.

This icon scheme would work well for stations that handle a single route but some stations handle 2-10 routes. Since my station name already contains all the route numbers, I don't want slightly different coordinates just to display a separate icon.

R5 Manayunk Coordinates

The SEPTA map and Google have this station a few blocks apart. Maybe someone familiar with this station can post coordinates. Thank-you in advance.

Broad Stree Line City Hall Coordinates

Maybe someone familiar with this station can post coordinates. Google shows the station in the City Hall center courtyard but this may not be the actual station location. Thank-you in advance.

Need More Help

T11 Darby station on Main St. Need coordinates for this station.

T13 Yeadon. Need coordinates for this station.

Still need coordinates for the previous posting too.

Thank-you in advance.

Yeadon Loop: 39.92506,-075.25252

The physical location of the City Hall station is on the west side of the building. But with all the underground concourses and multiple street accesses, you should be able to plot your position in the center of the block.

Double-check Manayunk

Thank-you for the help. However, the below coordinates are in NJ which is incorrect.

Duplicate Stations?

(SEPTA.csv uploaded with a four changes.)

Are the following lines serviced from the same stations? The SEPTA maps shows different locations (with xfers between the two stations) but the SEPTA address is the same for both stations. For example, in the first listing below, is the Market Frankford Line and the Bridge Ridge Spur both serviced from the same 8th Street station or are there two 8th Street stations close to one another?

Broad St Line

I did one for the broad st line then deleted it. After all it runs in a straight line its 11 miles long and it stops every 5 blocks or so.

what do you mean T11 and T13

Subway-Surface Lines

Those are the Subway-Surface Trolleys that end in Center City. There are also the 10, 34 & 36 lines.

Same stations, Different platform

For example, 30th Street station for the Market-Frankfort line is underneath the Amtrak station.

In that case, I'll use...

one station servicing multiple routes. Thank-you Geocamp for all your help.

File Updated

Manayunk was okay.

The post a few entries back with duplicates was fixed to a single entry for each.
