I just received mine from Costco. It has 4.5 firmware and MadMaps on it. I haven't tried it out on the road yet.

4.5?

Racer X - can you confirm again that the software version on your 750 is 4.5. Because at this point the highest public release is 4.2. I know Garmin sometimes uses a non-public version for new units, but you would think that would be numbered 4.3 or 4.4. I'm wondering why such a large jump in version numbers.

Should have waited..

Oh well, I am very pleased with mine. smile Its a great price though.

Got the 760 at Costco

I had seen the Nuvi 750 $199 costco.com deal and was about to get it, but decided to go checkout and see if they had a Garmin in store (I'll admit I was being a bit impatient). They had $760 for the $249 mentioned above and I bit (as I figured it was 'just' about $40 more then then the 750 and had the bluetooth and traffic (not that I plan to subscribe to traffic but figured if I move somewhere I might..) Anyway love the unit so far but right after getting it I saw amazon has dropped their price big time and they have it for $260 no tax and no shipping, oh well, costco has the great return policy so its not bad to have the extra insurance.

Yes, 4.5

GadgetGuy2008, this is what my model shows:

Thanks

Racer X - thanks for confirming the software version. That's good news for the rest of us because that should mean we see a new update any day now. I'm anxious to see what the changes are from 4.2 to 4.5.

Not only that, but...

...did you note the Extras & Safety Cameras button? That's news to me, too. 750s with v4.2 don't have that--at least not mine.

for those just getting new 750/760:

Is it safe to assume that these units have 2009 maps?

thx.

Price/Maps

We purchased a 760 from Amazon for $349 delivered in late September which was a reasonably good deal at that time. It now is selling for $249.

It did come with the 2009 maps. It did not however come with the DVD. Since I do most of my planning on the computer using MapSource, the DVD was a must have. A call to Garmin quickly resolved that issue as they sent the DVD free and it arrived within the week.

I understand had the unit arrived with the 2008 map, a free download to the current map is provided on the website.

As we all know whatever electronic item we buy, it will be cheaper in a few months. As a matter of fact, that philosophy apparently applies to stocks also sad

It's best to find a unit that meets your needs at an affordable price and never look back.

Depends

It depends on which model you want. If you want the 750 for $200, then you have to purchase it online since it is not available in the stores.

But if you want the 760 for $250, you have to purchase it in the store since it is not available online!

Costco Deal

I got mine today. It arrived in 2 days. (I did not pay for express shipping).

Anyone know how to give the voice a british accent???

nuvi 750 at Costco

I don't know about you guys but I sometimes shop on HSN (Home Shopping Network) on TV. They really carry some good deals. For instance I just purchased a 2 pack, yes a 2 pack. Two nuvi 205's for 299.95. Bought them online on Friday the 15th at 7:00pm and I just received them today! It also came with a year subscription to Conde Naste Traveler Magazine.
And yes that is a picture of a DUCATI 1098. I love it! But I don't need a gps on that thing.

Is the 750 supposed to show speed limits? This one does and I don't remember if the old one I had did.

Yes

Racer X wrote:

The 2008 City Navigator map showed speed limits only for interstates, at least in my experience.

The 2009 map update added speed limits to a majority of streets.

Changing Voice

Look under the language section and you can select various voices. There are additional voices at the Garmin website. The Aussie voice is cool.

Does The 750 have "Issues"?

When I first got my 750 (3 months ago) ti was great. Acquired signal fast and inside buildings.

now I can drive for 10 to 15 minutes and still not get satellite aquisition.

So yes, it appears that there is a problem. I got a response form Garmin support yesterday and they asked me to upgrade the firmware - which I did this evening.

I'll let you know if it helped. If not, the support team told me to give them call... 1-800-800-1020.

-nuts

750 issues? It would seem so..

this may be a repeat (if so my apologies. I replied, but it does not appear that the post showed up). anyway...

I got a 750 about 3 months ago and it worked great! FAST satellite aquisition outdoors, in the house and in the car.

Now, I can have it turned on and have been driving for 15 minutes and still no satellite. I contacted Garmin and they asked me to upgrade the firmware - which I did tonight. Garmin support said that if it didn't help to give them a call.

I'll let you know if the upgrade helped after I tried it out for a few days.

Diff between 750 and 760

JeffSh wrote:

What do you get when you buy the 760 instead of the 750?
JeffSh

Noting Costco's price, $199 for 750 and $249 for 760, you get the TMC FM Traffic receiver cable. You can find numerous comments from others, some like the traffic receiver, others don't. Personally, I like it on my 660. The 760 comes with a 3 month traffic subscription. However, one can renew the subscription for $60 for life (used to be $60/year). The traffic data can "lag" behind at times (i.e. it shows traffic jams even though it may be cleared). However, I tend to travel between cities and don't know good radio traffic stations to stay current with traffic conditions. Again, using it as a tool with common sense around rush-hour time.

Check out http://www8.garmin.com/traffic/fm/ for the list of cities covered.

Hope this helps

Costco return policy

You may want to check Costco's return policy. It use to be lifetime returns but when I bought my GPS a couple months ago I was told the policy is now 90 days for returns.

pricing is funny

I see that amazon has the 760 for $249.99, and the 750 for $299.99. Strange!

Also, I never understood rebates, but I've always gone for them. I feel uneasy when they go $100 or above, as if I'm not going to get it due to some technicality. That's only happened once.

When the BB Storm came out, I called my rep to see if he could do better than web....did he ever. I ordered it for $50 less than what others are getting with rebate, and no rebates to bother with. I never thought I'd see a day when a BlackBerry with voice and data service would cost the same as what we used to be willing to pay for with just voice....prices just keep falling so much and so fast that it's worrisome with respect to the economy. I just got cold calls out of the blue saying "if you know someone in the market for a...." from a car salesman (bought a new car two years ago) and a realtor (bought a house 6 years ago)....

New 750

I just picked up a 750 at Sam's club for 198. When I downloaded the updater it updated to 4.5

Also, with the 760, you get bluetooth, which does not come with the 750.

I have decided a good bluetooth earpiece fits my needs better. Paired with the right phone you can take the earpiece with you when you leave the car unless you want to take your GPS and leave it running on battery power which doesn't make much sense. My other car has built in bluetooth which is good but I still have my earpiece for when I leave the car. This of course is my personal opinion.

returns

Thanks for the heads up on the possible change in return policy-I'll try to check later on today. An unlimited return policy is an even better incentive to buy than a good price for me.

Rebates

Costco has a great rebate program-- you can do it all on-line and they do it fast.

I really don't like rebates, but for $100 you gotta go for it.

Talked my dad....into buying one. He ordered it on a Monday morning and it was delivered by Wed. It's a sweet deal

Big competition out there

The mobile phone manufacturers are forcing all GPS prices down.

The GPS in my Blackberry Curve 8310 ($79) does ok and I would imagine these types of multi-purpose units are giving our 'less functional units' a run for their money!

As for the 750's accuracy, the only time I've ever had any difficulty at all is when in mountainous terrains. The locations of addresses were miles off but the road and road positioning was still excellent.

Visiter, I find three Costco's in your city.

Either you live in a different Winnipeg, or you must not get out too much:),that is if you are in Winnipeg Manitoba. I did a search on my Nuvi and also found a Winnipeg, MO in the U.S. Is that where you are?

Costco

Even if you don't have one nearby I'm 99% sure you could do the whole thing by mail since you can't buy the 750 locally anyway.
Did anybody spot any BF deals better than Costco on this unit?

Picked one up at Electronic Xpress...

Got this morning at EE, for $199.99....

All I can say it is a major improvement from my SP330.

MP3 player, routes, auto sorting, and Qwerty Keyboad, god bless 'em for this one!!!

Very nice and the huge screen is a big step up!!!

750 vs 760

JeffSh wrote:

JeffSh

Two things seperate the two units. The 760 has bluetooth and a traffice receiver.

Having owned both (gave the 750 to mom and bought a 760) you just need to decide if you want those features. The 760 can be had for $249 at Amazon so it's $50 more than the 750. The cost of the traffice receiver (it's built into the power cord) if you want to add it to the 750 is about $65.

I like being able to pull up and check the traffic before heading out to cross town or travel.

As for the bluetooth I haven't really used it as I love my plantronics 925 (which is now really cheap at $50) as it can't be beat as a bluetooth headset.

Bottom line is the bottom line. What the extra features are worth to you.

2 extra features 750 v 760

I'll add that the traffic reciever is pretty accurate and tells you about slow downs that you don't get from Sattelite radio traffic.

750 v 760

I returned a Tom Tom ONE 125 for the Nuvi 750 the other day, and the Nuvi 750 is head and shoulders a better unit than the Tom Tom. Seeing these discussions is now making me consider upgrading one more time to the Nuvi 760.

John, it's my understanding that COSTCO has internet-only deals, that's what the 750 was.

The 760 is purchased in the store-only.

I think you are right. As I live in Canada, I cann't buy it throught Internet. In Canada COSTCO, 750 is CAD$280+tax(13%).
