Nuvi 785T

re: Nuvi 785T

That's a good price.

I've bought one item from walmart.com and didn't have any trouble although their reviews aren't too great.

Beach Audio where I've gotten really good service has it for $575.99 plus I think $5 shipping with no tax in most states.

Shopping.com list it at compuplus.com for $564.94 including shipping with no tax in most states. They're reviews seem to be fairly decent on resellerratings.com

As for me I live in a rural area where MSN Direct service is not available and I don't need any more monthy fees, so I'm sticking with the 765t just so I have traffic when I occasionally venture into the big cities. I do like the idea of being able to get weather reports, gas prices, etc. though.

You can get it

You can get a Nuvi 785T at Amazon for $631.15 with Free Shipping !

I would pass on that site. http://www.resellerratings.com/store/TheDigitalNerds

After seeing your post, I agree.

Techondigital.com

I have to agree with everyone else.

When the price is that much lower than anyone else, something has to be wrong.

As Don S posted, the reviews from resellerratings.com are totally dismal. It sounds like they put high pressure on you to buy overpriced accessories and if you refuse they cancel the order.

You should always check resellerratings.com before buying from an unfamiliar store and if there aren't many ratings, I'd be very careful.

Warning signs to watch out

Warning signs to watch out for with MO retailers ...

1. Most are closed early on Friday and closed on Sat
2. Dirt cheap unit cost
3. Super EXPENSIVE accessory cost

Those stores are known to do the "bait-and-switch" type of deals when you only order the unit w/o additional accessories for them to recover the profit.

785T

I have owned the unit for @ 1 week with the 2009 map
I have found the mapping to be off @ .1 - .2 tenths of a mile....any ideas?

A notable quote!

After the sweetness of cheapness fades, the stench of poor quality lingers forever..

If 765t comes with lifetime traffic,

then why do you want 785t?

Why Would You Want A 785t?

Because the 785t with MSN Direct covers more areas for Traffic.

Also gives you weather reports, gas prices, movie times, etc.

I live in an area without MSN Direct coverage, so it's an easy choice for me. I'm sticking with the 765t.

Hmm

The 785T has cool graphic but do you really need the cool graphics for the price!!!

I agree with numbers 2 and 3, but not so sure about number 1.

Somewhat prejudiced against Jewish people, don't you think?

I don't have a whole lot of experience buying from these New York City places, and know you have to be very careful, but I have bought a TV from Beach Camera, which I believe is closed at these times, and they provided excellent service.

Prejudice

Grush,

There are many reputable MOs run and owned by Jewish businessmen such as B&H and J&R.

The three factors I have listed are based on my knowledge of those bait-and-switch MOs. Your experiences may differ.

Ok, jimmy no problem.

Like I said I don't have too much experience with those stores.

I just don't know if that is a reliable factor in deciding.

At any rate, I'd check resellerratings.com, BBB, etc.

many reputable businesses

Add Abes of Maine, Adorama and a couple of others to your B&H and J&R, and it does start to look like your "closes early Fri..." might be a bit too general of a statement. I am FAR from politically correct, but Grush isn't wrong on this one! We need to be a bit more careful in how we state things on a public site such as this. wink

Not looking to be politically correct

DJS,

For each of us, we have our own criteria for MO retailer selection. The 3 items I listed is based on those bait-and-switch MOs. IMHO those still holds.

This kind of acceptance level also applies to the meaning of "reputable", as many online MOs do not do the bait-and-switch, but they do sell gray market products at a cheaper price w/o telling the customer. While this may not be an issue for some manufactures here in US, but there are manufactures that will NOT honor the product warranty for non-US intended gray market products.

Your opinion may very well differ from my and I respect that.
