Chit Chat Thread for the week of October 20, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

A beautiful fall day beside the Burning River

'Tis a beautiful fall day beside the Burning River of EPA lore.

Leaves seem to be in peak fall colors.

Burn on, big river, burn on.

If you're from around here you probably know what river is the burning river. The only river condemned as a fire hazard. Happily, that is ancient history.

Fall Colors

Cool temps and nice fall colors here in central Indiana today. Spent the last 2 day cutting down a huge oak tree and cutting it up for timber logs and firewood.

I ache! Not used to manual labor.

Getting chilly in the NYC area.

Yep, after some moderate weather it is chilling fast in the area. I took the kids to a Country Fair on Saturday. My wife dug out pullover hats and gloves for the kids. She wasn't feeling too well so maybe it seemed extra cold to her but I felt that it was just too early to mummify the kids!

The days of hitting the boardwalk, beach or at least the playground are about over for a while!

Heres a question for ya...

If the price of oil has dropped, why are the Airlines still charging so many fuel surcharges and extra fees. Their aviation fuel has had to have gone down too? Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.

Heres a question for ya...

They have to keep the prices up to make up for the higher cost early in the year. and they aren't ready to give back to the public. Going to cut the number of seats for thanksgiving but keep the high prices.

Cruises

Been on 4 cruises so far, the 5th is booked.

Our Honeymoon, 1st anniversary, 2nd anniversary, and 4th anniversary were all on cruises. The 5th will be on about 3 weeks before our 6th anniversary. We're trying to limit ourselves to every other year, but may move it to every 3rd year so we can do other things like travel to Europe, Alaska, and throughout the rest of the U.S.

All of the cruises were on Disney Cruise Line, and we don't even have kids. We're big kids ourselves and just think Disney goes over the top compared to cruises my parents and sisters have taken. All of them had bad experiences and/or food on their trips.

Our first cruise, the Honeymoon, was the best. NO, get your minds out of the gutters, it was the best because we won the Jackpot Bingo game on the last day at sea. Oh yea baby, OVER $6000 was ours... all TAX FREE!!!

No they don't, they have to take the hit and move on

No they don't, they have to take the hit like everyone else has to, since they made these adjustments, I would hope they get absolutely no bailout money.

Here is a way to fix their wagon, instead of a family of 4 or more flying to Grandma's for Thanksgiving, Christmas or whatever your holiday might be, just buy one or two seats and bring your Grandparents or Parents to you. You don't really believe the airlines are going to drop back to pre high oil pricing, or drop the extra luggage charge or give you free soda and peanuts again do you. Only if you become proactive and do things like above.
If you must travel, and your trip is 500 miles or less just drive and skip the airlines completely. Empty seats will equal lower prices in no time.

Great Group

Just wanted to poke my head in and say hi to all. I've been busy with family matters. My 81 yr. old Dad has a few more days with us. We've been by his side. He's had a sense of humor through the whole thing, so it's been a little easier to deal with.
Death and taxes...can't avoid either.

I just came back from Atlanta last night.

Boy, was it cold up there. Well, compared to Tampa it was freezing.

No they don't, they have to take the hit and move on

BobDee I was being smart with the reply. Every time they raise prices they are very slow to lower them back down, as with most businesses. I agree with you buy two tickets and save. I don't fly since I retired as I would rather drive and not have the hassel . Buy the way gas was 2.21 in Mo. where my son lives at Sam's club. down to 3.11 from 3.69 just two weeks ago in Utah.
