Chit Chat Thread for the week of October 20, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Airship Ventures Zeppelin flew over my home yesterday

It flew over my home yesterday and was quite the site. On the news last night they said that it is the largest Zeppelin to fly in the US in over 70 years. The second link is a blog they are doing during the trip and they posted photos they took of Tucson and the gigantic military plane storage yard as they were flying over yesterday.

Photos I snapped yesterday as it was going by:

http://home.comcast.net/~rjrsw2005/Blimp%20Wide%20Angle.jpg

http://home.comcast.net/~rjrsw2005/Blimp%20Zoomed.jpg

Some more info:
"Airship Ventures today announced that the largest airship in the world, the 246 foot long Airship Ventures Zeppelin has left Hamburg, Germany aboard the 530 foot long container ship 'Combi Dock I' and is on its way across the Atlantic.
One of only three Zeppelins in the world, and the first to come to the USA, the airship is expected to arrive at the port of Beaumont, Texas, on or around October 12. The ship will then be off-loaded, and after some re- assembly and flight checks, flown cross country.

The historic journey will take the ship through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona before entering California and crossing the Rocky Mountains at Banning Pass. Traveling up the coast for a dramatic San Francisco entrance through the Golden Gate Bridge, it will then land at its new home - the historic airship hangars of Moffett Field - some two weeks after arrival at the port.

Black Friday

I hope that there are some good deals this year. With the economy slowing down, this should make for some good shopping. That is, if anyone has money to spend.

Loan

You can always apply for a loan. That is if you can find a bank who is lending money.

Texas Weather

well it's almost time to head back up north to Canada. We have been enjoying the Texas weather for the last three weeks and it's been great. We still have one week left and then back to the cold weather. I am sure glad I had my GPS with me as a guy could sure get lost on the free ways down here. Well it's bed time and I will talk more when I get back home.

Renegade734, You have my deepest condolances. Thoughts and prayers going out for you, your spouse, and family. My rough week was earlier this month, the one year anniversary of my Mother and 20 year anniversary of my Father's passing.

Our brains tell us that they are in a better place (even if we do not believe), we know also that they are no longer in pain. However the Heart still misses them and thier freindship/companionship/love/and compassion. Sometimes the Heart Rules, sometimes the Brain rules. We just have to be grateful that they graced our lives for the time we had with them.

Sorry I missed this message earlier.

My friend Jack

I just got back from Colorado with "Jack". He helped me all the way back and even helped calibrate the truck speedo. The road mile markers said I was 2 miles slow over 100 miles, so I added 1/4 inch to the tires size with my PPE tuner. It appears to be correct now, and will check it on the next trip. BTW, I averaged 20 MPG which I thought was good for a 3/4 truck traveling 70 MPH.

Miss POI

Ever have one of those days...

When you thought you'd seen everything, then along comes something that makes you realize you ain't seen nothin' yet?

Today - went to pick up my brother at the airport (MSP) - while waiting near the baggage claim for my brother to arrive...there was this guy that made me think 'my, what an unusual fur hat... wait, that ain't a hat'. Not much later, I see a gal that looked like she was looking for a pole to dance from and her outfit looked like something off the rack at a store called "Skank"...and finally, nobody looks good with a scrawny goatee and a mohawk haircut dyed the color of a blue raspberry Icee.
