MP3 via FM - alternatives ??

I've been playing MP3s with a 5W external and also nuvi FM transmitter but i get distortion from random radio stations dropping in and out of the frequency used as i drive and also sideband noise from radio stations around the frequency used. ive tried every frequency and there is always some stupid radio station broadcasting at some point in that frequency band. is there any way of increasing the FM TX power or decreasing my cars FM pickup without any huge modifications ? i dont have aux in or i'd do that.

FM Interference

In a word, no.

The radio stations are broadcasting on an assigned frequency with thousands of watts of power. You are using an unlicensed transmitter with about a hundredth of a watt for power. The FCC rules state that you "must not cause interference" and that you must "accept any interference" from a licensed station. You can always try setting your Nuvi transmitter to one end of the band or the other, you are less likely to have a licensed station at the extreme ends of the FM band.

They're available as add-ons to many car OEM radios; or - a new radio with an AUX input might be a good choice. There are also FM transmitters that have an RF out, and can insert the signal directly into the car radio's RF antenna line, reducing the problems you've seen with FM transmitters.

mp3 via FM

I unscrew the antennae from the roof of my corrola and it works with out interfearance. When I need FM again just screw it back on.
