New User Found Several Wrong Locations POI

I got my nuvi 205w a little over a week ago and so far I've found several locations/POIs that are just plain wrong. Almost on the "wrong side of the planet", it seems.

What can be done to correct these incorrect locations.

Examples include Target, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot....not even close to where they actually are.

Thanx

POI locations

You may want to look at this:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13676

.

Just send a note to the file authors with the corrections/errors.

(The file author is listed on the file page. Click on the name and click on the contact tab.)

Incorrect POI locations (Custom)

If it is a custom POI that was downloaded here at the Factory, you can notify the POI File Owner via his/her contact tab. If the contact tab has been disabled by the user you could send it to Miss POI.

When you do notify someone, it does make life SO MUCH easier if you can included the corrected info, if you can get it, indicating where/how you got it.

I will try to correct them. If you can give correct coordinates that will be a bonus... grin

In the past, new members have complained similarly. After providing more info, it was determined that they were actually searching the built-in POIs and not the Custom-POIs accessed under Extras. Any chance this could be the situation with your report? Are you accessing your Custom-POIs correctly? You can look under "Shopping".

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Maybe I should have

Maybe I should have explained a little better. I wasn't commenting about locations with the POI-Factory, but rather the locations 'built-in' with the Garmin.

I've been practicing, trying to get used to the GPS system and putting in references that I know exactly where they are at. No, not the GPS Coordinates, but rather where they are in my head (my own natural GPS finder). Some of these locations (businesses, etc.) are new & I understand that it would take time to correct or add to the Garmin systems....but others are just plain wrong...never were right in ones' most intimate dreams or nightmares, as the case may be.

Case in point for a local Lowe's and Target store. In Austell, Georgia. The closest to my home would be on the East-West Connector and Austell Road. The Garmin shows a Target store several miles away on a little 2 lane road that connects Austell with Powder Springs, Georgia. There NEVER was a Target or Lowe's on this route...I doubt there ever will be in my lifetime.

I also had the occasion to 'scooter' down to Panama City, Florida weekend before last & found that several locations were wrong there as well. So it's not just backwater Georgia specific. AND as you'll find, Austell is a bedroom community of Atlanta and not that far away from downtown ATL.

All GPSr's have the same problem

The canned POI's are often inaccurate.
Hence the main reason we are all here, to collect and share the correct information.

Using Android Based GPS.The above post and my sig reflects my own opinions, expressed for the purpose of informing or inspiring, not commanding. Naturally, you are free to reject or embrace whatever you read.

.

I install the Custom POIs for the stuff that I'm interested in and only use the built in POIs for backup.

But as posted above, you can and should report errors to Navteq.

Built in POIs

As has been said, You can't change the builtin POIs, only report them incorrect, however custom POIs can be set exactly how you want them and can be tweaked when found to be incorrect. Stick with custom POIs.

Thanx folks....glad I found

Thanx folks....glad I found this website.....I've always had a 'built-in GPS' in my head, much to my wife's dismay....but also her amazement....we'd go somewhere and I'd end up with just a couple of blocks of where we were supposed to be.

I got the Nuvi to help out with my Santa gigs, especially those times when I have several gigs on the same date but in different areas of metro Atlanta and not having a lot of time in between to hunt for the right location.

A little early??

First I thought you were starting a little early, but I guess it takes a lot of time to check your list twice. smile

I have found similar

I have found similar in-accuracies in Orlando area (Vacationing). Set my 750 garmin for a restaurant and when I got there, it turned out to be a Hess Gas station. Too bad that you cant modify the main POI data. The custom POI's are great but if you look for something in a never been there before place then the phone book with address or the web is the best way to find things with the GPS using the address instead of POI.
There should be incentives for reporting errors IMO.

One great thing about GPS - I always got back to my rented house without getting lost!

Hey, my avatar is the real

Hey, my avatar is the real deal....I've been a 'scooter' ridin' Santa for a while.....and Santa ALWAYS plays with the toys & gifts before he gives them....that way he can find out which are the best and which ones won't be finding their way into any of Santa's presents......

BTW, I love my Xbox360.....when it isn't crashing, it plays fantastic games on my HDTV.....

..and because of the lousy economy....Santa's Season appears to be starting a little earlier this year.....I've already had an inquiry for a date in November....BEFORE Thanksgiving....

PS - One more thing...does the multiple icons at a particular location drive you nuts like it does me. I see a Pizza Slice and click on it and it shows something like Bank of America????? Even when you magnify the map it doesn't separate the icons. Again a bad idea by Garmin...maybe they should juxtaposition the icons in a descending or asending manner once you get down to the last magnified screen.......
