Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?

(I have updated the thread subject line to show this is for the GPX version I'm discussing here)

We have two versions of files for Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives on this site, but they are maintained by different people.

The CSV version ( http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6232 ) lists 8 people involved in updating the file and the GPX version ( http://www.poi-factory.com/node/15558 ) was created by sabadir and was updated by eradicatore.

Since so many were involved already, I'm not sure the best way to get this idea out, which is why I started this thread.

I note that both files were solely created by the listing on the DDD webapges on the Food Network website. Unfortunately they are not keeping this listing up to date.

I am heading up to Scottsdale tomorrow and figured I would stop at Joe's Farm Grill in Gilbert on my way home. I had seen this place featured on DDD. I'm glad I checked to make sure it was in the poi, since it isn't.
I added it as a favorite for now.

Visiting DDD schedule, I see they list three other locations, plus Joe's Farm Grill which are not in the pois and could be added.

Do we need a project to get these files updated more fully? This could be handled by one person, but I suspect that many fans know of one or two places that are not on the FN site. We could potentially have another dozen people working on the files to get them up to date without waiting for the shows to re-air, if they do.

What is the best way to get these files updated when so many have been involved in or could be involved in creating & updating them?

I received "More Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” book as a Christmas present and decided to update the file in my PC with the food featured at each location, as I read the book I'll update the file by adding an extra line with the food.

If you don't mind, please send me the file so that I can review the results.

Thanks

I got quite a few done by getting the information from the web and others from my book, some I had to watch the youtube video to see what was the featured item, I also added around 15 new locations that are not in the CSV file.

The only down side for me is that I can’t no longer download the file from POI since my CSV file has more and added information than the file at the site.

I have no intention of being the keeper of the file at POI but once I’m done I can make it available to whoever the maintainer is at that time so he can consider replacing it with my file.

This may take a while since it is very time consuming and is nor as easy as just finding the location.

So you don't get the 2 files mixed up just name your's something different. Download the file from the site and then compare them.
You can copy and paste what you need between them. CSV will open in excel.

conflicting address

I ran DinersDrive-insDives.csv on POI Editor for duplicates and it found this two, different business name but the same address, I checked at the FoodTV.com and they also have both listed for the same address.

Since the file was extracted from information posted at FoodTV it could be they made a mistake, I found the Rino's Place but in another state.

DDD Smartphone App

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not. I have an app on my Palm Pre for DDD. It's a nice companion to the POI file. It lets you search by area or GPS location and links to the youtube video for each location. The app is free, and I'm guessing also available for iPhone and Android, but I'm not certain.

Done!

Corrections and Updates

I have made some minor corrections: the From Pork to Tofu, Episode DV1101 was mislabeled as Episode DV1014 and included duplicate entries from a previous episode while excluding the correct entries.

After these corrections, I have added the remaining episodes through DV1106. Unfortunately, I have no idea where or to whom to send the file now that it has been updated.

Go to

Go to http://www.poi-factory.com/node/15558 and use the contact tab to send info to Author of the file.

Parkette Drive-in Lexington, Ky DV1004

I visited Parkette this past weekend, and the drive-in was actually on the opposite side of the street from where the GPS told me it was. Other than that, it was spot on from NC to KY.

Your GPS will only show the closest 50 to your current location.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1371

I have downloaded and saved the file 3 - 4 times and before installing it tried to open it in GPX editor.

Is you need to take the "1" out of the file name. That will create an issue of not getting the "Go" icon. I don't know about the other issue though.

Teddy's Restaurant - VA

Good place for a quick lunch, lots of locals, friendly staff and owner. In the middle of no where which is good if you are hungry and in the neighborhood. We were looking and asked in a antique/junk store and was direct to Nicklesville as the closest place for good food. It was a Sunday and not much was open. Was a bit of a drive since it was about 3 miles away on the other side of a mountain we had to drive around but it was worth the drive.

Triple D Plus

I've been using Triple D Plus. It's in .csv format and includes some of the dishes shown on the TV show. I'm not sure why the author/maintainer is keeping those that have closed in the file though.

location information????

Hello POI members...

The Food Network has not updated many of the new episode information. Do you want me to remain pure and only list what they have posted or list the information from any source?

Taylor's Refresher is now Gott’s Roadside Tray Gourmet

Effective March 25th, 2010 the Restaurant formerly known as Taylor's Refresher has new owners who renamed it to Gott’s Roadside Tray Gourmet.

Only list

Only list the places that were visited on the Food Network show called "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." If the place was visited but the Food Network website does not give the address, it's OK to get the correct address of the place from somewhere else and add it to the POI.

Glad to see this file is still being maintained and updated. I am surprised that there hasn't been any activity on this thread in FOUR years though!

We lost one in Connecticut

Thank you for keeping this list up to date. Unfortunately, Wilson's Holy Smoke in Fairfield, Connecticut closed their doors permanently in 2018.

Is this poi still taking edits

I see that this thread is getting kinda old. Is anybody taking edits now? I have a missed DDD and one that's not there anymore.

Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

Latest release was Aug 10, 2020 and a new edition will be out this week.

Thanks donaldb!

Thanks for DDD! It is one of the most-used files.
