cheapest to buy map downloads...

hey guys, i am looking into purchasing a map update but they are expensive for me.. is there a way to get them discounted AND how different are they from the 08 maps?? in maryland, sections of the new construction by PG is an example.. common sense saved me from getting lost and trying to ignore that ever annoying 'recalculating' and seeing my car floating on the map.

As far as discounts, Costco

As far as discounts, Costco and Walmart sell the updated maps. Other retailers also carry the updates, so just search the web for the cheapest deal. But please stick to reputable businesses.

You can check out the 2009 maps on Garmin's site. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/5prtok

You can zoom in to your area and see if the changes have been included on the 2009 maps.

Costco sells the 2009 North

Costco sells the 2009 North America Update for $54. There's a major interstate addition in the Chicago area so was worth it for me.

2009 Map Updates

Does anyone know if there is a lot of changes for New York and New Jersey with the 2009 map updates?
Thanks

The best thing to do is to use the MapViewer tool on Garmin's website to preview the map before you purchase it. You can zoom in and pan in the areas in which are are interested and see if there are changes that would affect your travels.

I've got both the '08 and

I've got both the '08 and the '09 maps. '08 on 660 and '09 on 680.

M of my driving is around Baltimore and the only difference I've found to day is the 43 extension by White Marsh Mall. The 43 extension should have made the '08 map but it didn't.

My next Map purchase probably won't happen will the 2010 because of the major changes where I95 intersects with 695, north of Baltimore. There's going to be a lot of changes due to the additional toll roads being added to I95 and I just don't see Garmin getting them added till 2010, at the earliest. Shoot, they've already changed an exit and it's not on there.

Doh

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier.

You may want to hold off purchasing the map updates. Rumor has it that Garmin will be coming out with a new quarterly map update. And possibly a fixed price.

No official date yet, but my guess is they will roll this out within the next two weeks when the 7x5 series become available.

i wish there was an easy

i wish there was an easy link where you click something like 'map updates' then scroll to your state, then to your county, and there it shows you the additions/corrections/updates/etc

Garmin Nuvi 750 & c530 with RT's vol. mod., Vulcan Nomad

MapViewer

The mapviewer doesn't seem to go in to too much detail, below freeway/highway detail. Am I missing something?

Previewer

That's great advice! Thanks for the tip!

.

You have to zoom in and increase the map detail. It will show all the way down to which built in POIs are there.

have wondered about the same thing

Dear Alan,

I have tried to find that out. Looking at the GARMIN site has not enlightened me. There is a street in downtown Brooklyn that used to be two-way and is now one-way. My unit tried to make me turn down the street the wrong way.

Alan & David - if the Map Viewer does not provide the information you need, feel free to send me a PM with the information you need. I will test it on my 2009 maps and let you know what I find. But it won't be until Saturday, my unit is on loan to a friend.

theres a one way street in

theres a one way street in catonsville, md that had I not known was one way, i'd be on a head-on collision accident a long time ago

You should have seen the route it tried to take me coming off the UMBC campus one dark, rainy night. I am curious how much of the new construction in Howard County made it in. I have a lot of friends whose houses are dots floating in the middle of nowhere.

Is the GARMIN map preview really 2009 or 2008?

I checked the link and even though the header says 2009, the copyright for GARMIN says 1995 - 2008 and for NAVTEQ says 2007!

Are these really NEW maps or just 2008 maps?

I have seen the future and it is now!

not updated

I have 2009 maps, and there are major roads around my neighborhood that have been there for years that aren't in the 2009 maps. It's too bad there isn't a way to tell Garmin about discrepancies in their maps.

Navteq

Garmin does not handle map corrections. Navteq does.
