set location on nuvi 350

I have tried Gary Hayman's procedure in his article I've been set up but the set loc option did not appear after tapping Show Map. I followed his example as given in the article. So my question is can I set loc on the Nuvi 350 AND the location is in another state?

Also, what is the difference between setting alerts as single tone vs continuous all alerts from a user perspective.

Thanks,

John

.

Set Loc. will only show if the GPS antenna is off. Be sure your nuvi 350's antenna flap is flipped down.

set location on nuvi 350

Yes, the antenna was down.

Set Location with Antenna Up

On the nuvi 650 and 'perhaps' all nuvis with a swing up antenna you CAN 'set loc' with the antenna up -- also.

All you have to do is to make sure your unit is in Simulation Mode

Wrench > System > Touch Simulator Off to bring up Simulator Screen > Touch button 'ON' > OK > Back (2)

Now when you View Map just slide the screen till the small white arrow is at the place you want and press 'Set Loc' which appears at the bottom of the screen.

Your vehicle will jump to the new spot.

Take a look at my article

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION - Using 'Set Loc' and Why

It's on page 3 of the Garmin Tricks WEB site that can be reached via:

setting loc on nuvi350

Gary - While the antenna was down I did not set the nuvi to simulation mode when I followed your example of Vine and Hollywood.

Thank you for your suggestion

John

ps I have enjoyed your tips very much. a great service to us other users.

set loc on nuvi 350

Gary - The nuvi 350 does not have a setting for getting into simulation mode.
As I stated in my initial post, your instructions did not lead to a set loc option on the 350. Perhaps some one else with a 350 can try and help clarify why I am not able to implement the procedure you outlined.

350 information

John,

Thank you for telling me. I'll have to include a note about the 350 in my writings.

It does appear 'funny' that the 350 doesn't allow 'simulation mode'. Could there be some 'different' button than I use to access it. I don't have a 350 with which to experiment.

Set Loc

John

See page 9 at the bottom of your nuvi 350 manual.

Even though you can't simulate your travel (at least I couldn't find it) you CAN do a 'set loc' with your antenna down. They refer to it as having your GPS off.

350 has a simulation mode

It just doesn't have a menu option for it. With the antenna closed, choose a location and press Go. It will ask if you want to simulate the route.

To simulate a route somewhere else, use the set location first, and then pick a destination and Go. It will simulate from your set location to the destination.

Another option for setting location on 350

You can use the Browse Map option to drag the map to the area of your destination and tap the screen to set the arrow on the spot you want to start, then finally select Set Loc.

That works fine if the location is somewhat close so you don't have to drag the map far, otherwise, I like this method.

1. Keep antennae down to be in Simulation mode.
2. Press Stop if any route is active.
3. If location is in My Locations - e.g. Favorites, Custom POI, Recently Selected; you can skip the rest of this step.
Select Where to?>Near>'A Different City'>Ok>Spell and select city
4. Select your destination using any of the available menu options.
5. Press Go>answer No to 'Do you want to simulate driving this route?'
6. Menu>Where to?>Near>'My Destination'>Ok
7. Browse maps>Set Loc.>Back
8. Vehicle is now set at desired location to do whatever you want - find local POI, get/check directions, test alerts, get coordinates,...

I agree with the above statement. With the antennae up (GPS on), Set Loc. turns into 'Save' for Favorites for the 350.

Nuvi 350

I spent 40 minutes trying to

I spent 40 minutes trying to find that "Set Loc" button today. Instead of making me do a U-turn to a destination about 400 m away. It took me in and out of two freeways and traffic and 10 extra kms!

I was ready to smash it

@Oink .Set location

You can just touch the vehicle on the map to set a location.
